My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.
Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

In July, we released Courtney 50.0. It may not be the fastest writing machine, but it has been honed fifty years of intensive language training. Based on the benchmarks demonstrated by this chart, Courtney 50.0 crushes the competition so significantly that we should have used a log axis.
An incredibly long graphic, using the graphic in the post text at the very bottom (a chart showing Open AI vs Grok vs Fable release date on the X axis, and model number on the Y axis). There is a long piece of whitespace, and then Courtney 49.0 and Courtney 50.0 are graphed at the very top.

As for custom vs machine made clothes: 1) for the buyers that’s more a available income issue, not a taste issue; 2) for the makers, those are still humans operating the machines. In summary, we should not say that some people are less human or tasteful just because they are different.

I don’t like the ubiquitous way we use the word “cooked” — it describes a real dipped-in-the-zeitgeist thing, yes. But now we imply winning a horse race at the expense of the cooked. It feels slightly dehumanizing. I’m saying that saying cooked too much cooks ones empathy. Six seven math, you know

It’s interesting to think about effort being sometimes a count noun or a non count noun. I think it hinges on how much energy we want to give to our observations? Or hope we have of being able to see effectively? Yoda/Holmes’ “do or do not—there is no try”: there is a limit on looking at effort?

49 years ago, on the 18th of September 1977, space probe Voyager I took the first long distance photograph of earth and the moon together from 7.25 million miles (11.66 million kilometres) away. #otd #history #space 🗃️
This picture of a crescent-shaped Earth and Moon -- the first of its kind ever taken by a spacecraft -- was recorded September 18, 1977, by NASA's Voyager 1 when it was 7.25 million miles (11.66 million kilometers) from Earth. The Moon is at the top of the picture and beyond the Earth as viewed by Voyager. In the picture are eastern Asia, the western Pacific Ocean and part of the Arctic. Voyager 1 was directly above Mt. Everest (on the night side of the planet at 25 degrees north latitude) when the picture was taken. The photo was made from three images taken through color filters, then processed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Image Processing Lab. Because the Earth is many times brighter than the Moon, the Moon was artificially brightened by a factor of three relative to the Earth by computer enhancement so that both bodies would show clearly in the print. Voyager 2 was launched Aug. 20, 1977, followed by Voyager 1 on Sept. 5, 1977, en route to encounters at Jupiter in 1979 and Sa

One of the things I learned growing up amid working musicians is: touring players will rationalize away a hell of a lot of bad stuff to book a gig that runs for weeks. A touring band saying, "I can't do this and live with myself" is like mercenaries saying, "This war is too disturbing. I'm out."

There is robust academic literature about how selective groups -- cults, gangs, franternities -- make use of “shame and stigma” rituals that include deliberately demeaning initiations so as to enhance commitment to the in-group and its norms. I believe Alpha School is doing this.
