This is so poorly worded. I'm not even sure what they're after here.

I mean, yes. Most copyright holders just aren't stupid enough to sue their fans.

This is very poorly worded. It's not even clear what they're asking for. Are they asking for adaptation rights for stories, or are they just saying they won't be commissioning work based on stories anymore? Moral rights can't be waived here, period. Not sure about other jurisdictions.

Come to think of it, the university novel of any kind is an extremely minor part of literary fiction. I’ve read very few. Many where things happen at a university or to students, but far fewer where university life or professors are actually central to the workings of the novel.

In the nearly 35 years I’ve been a serious reader, I’ve encountered it maybe twice, and my once in a a “major” book (Stoner). I’ve encountered the “old dude sleep with young subordinate lady” trope more generally, but way, way more frequently in SFF.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I remember when the government privatized most of the country's airports in the '90s. My dad got laid off! The only thing that saved him was the union helping him move to a new job. The Liberal minister who implemented the policy called it the "worst decision" of his career.
