As exciting as a lucky dice roll can be in a story-heavy game, they often feel like a vestigial holdover from TTRPGs, where the abstraction of dice for social/story checks is necessary to keep events flowing forward. There also isn't savescumming in TTRPGs. Players have to adapt to a bad roll...

I think the best way to think about the Omarchy stuff is not a bunch of companies donating millions of dollars to a Linux dotfiles project. It’s a bunch of companies donating money to a political advocacy project with goals like getting minorities out of open source and eliminating the Roma.

Just finished the hex. I was already an inscryption fan and this was just such a fascinating entry. It's honestly the closest thing i've played to the beginners guide, which isn't the comparison that I thought I'd be making going into it. Very good nonetheless! Quite hyped for Pony island 2.

I don't care if DLSS5 looks "better" or not. It is ethically unconscionable, sets dangerous precedent, will end up homogenizing art direction in games if broadly adopted, and not to mention raise already sky-high performance, and thus cost, barriers.

I'm seeing a lot of games doomer posting, and yes we 100% have a shitty industry, but don't let all that noise and money trick you into thinking games are a dead medium. If nobody is making genuine art in games, then I will be dead, and I know the same is true for many of my contemporaries.

Herzog once promised to eat his shoe if Errol Morris completed a film project on pet cemeteries that he had been working on, to challenge and motivate Morris, as he perceived Morris to be incapable of following up on the projects he conceived. In 1978, when the film Gates of Heaven premiered, Herzog cooked and publicly ate his shoe; the event was later incorporated into a short documentary, Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980), by Les Blank. Herzog suggested that he hoped the act would serve to encourage anyone having difficulty bringing a project to fruition.

One of my uni classes is using discord for announcements and I physically cannot use a server join link in a mobile browser. It either renders a completely useless popup (even in desktop mode) or redirects me to the app store to download a glorified browser wrapper. Actual garbage.

Taking a page out of the hyprland developer's playbook, people should just stop making new TTRPGs and instead just make 5e hacks. We all replicate the same systems anyway so this will cut down on all the extra work! Remember that art is efficiency.
