This is a Silvertone lap steel/slide guitar made by Danelectro in New Jersey in 1953. It features a solid, hardwood body, a natural finish, a single coil pickup built into a white plastic housing (essentially a lipstick pickup without the lipstick housing) on which two white knobs are located for volume and tone control. It has a fixed nickel plated bridge/tailpiece, a cherry wood fretboard, a metal nut, a built-in cord (which was replaced with a modern cord), and an original case. This lap steel is very clean and in great shape. Get this classic for the beautiful, haunting sound of this obscenely rare lap steel.Description from VintageSilvertones.com

Today, we reflect on the extraordinary life and legacy of 🌹 Buddy Rich (September 30, 1917 💖 April 2, 1987) on his birthday, a drummer whose virtuosity, innovation, and charisma earned him a place among the greatest jazz musicians of all time.

Born Bernard Rich to a Jewish family, he began performing at an early age, and by 1937 he was already dazzling audiences with Joe Marsala at New York’s Hickory House. His remarkable technique, speed, and musicality soon led him to join Tommy Dorsey’s band in 1939, and later collaborations with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Ventura, Louis Armstrong, and fellow drumming icon Gene Krupa further solidified his reputation.
Rich’s career extended beyond live performance; throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he toured the globe with his own bands and opened two nightclubs—Buddy’s Place and Buddy’s Place II—where fans could experience his masterful drumming up close. Known for blending jazz with elements of rock, he continually evolved, demonstrating an adaptability that kept him relevant across decades. His commanding presence also made him a favorite guest on television talk shows, including The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas Show, Dick Cavett Show, and Merv Griffin Show.
His contributions were widely recognized: he received honors such as the DownBeat Magazine Hall of Fame Award, Modern Drummer Magazine Hall of Fame Award, and the Jazz Unlimited Immortals of Jazz Award. Rich performed for millions worldwide, including appearances for world leaders like the King of Thailand, King Hussein of Jordan, the Queen of England, and U.S. Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. Buddy Rich’s legacy endures, not only in the recordings and performances he left behind, but in the countless drummers he inspired with his unparalleled skill and passion."
