You found me crying as I ironed your shirts. I smiled at you and said nothing. As though you'd ask. I bled pain from every pore I smiled at you and said nothing. As though you'd ask In the resus room after the pills. I said nothing And so did you. #poetry

Jigsaw originally published in Ink, Sweat and Tears inksweatandtears.co.uk/paul-bavister/ #poetry #writing
Jigsaw

A family photo, blown up and chopped
into a thousand pieces then tipped
on the table. We found our eyes first,
as they swirled through fragments
of black jumper, dark pine trees
and an orange sunset sky.

The jigsaw became a winter tradition,
and as we got older, the worn pieces
got harder to push together.
Sometimes we’d panic
that one was lost, but then find it
still rattling in the box.

When a side was completed
or a face stared back at us,
we’d nod in recognition.
We were always silent
as we put us all back together
in the winter sunlight.

I hope everyone is having a good Friday. I am having a busy one, so am going to post this and run! I will leave reading everyone else's until tonight when I can hopefully relax 😌 #PoemsAbout #Rot @thebrokenspine.co.uk @alanparrywriter.co.uk #Poetry
Slow Death

My mother's garden once held itself together
the way a thought survives a sleepless night,
each bed and border aligned
to some private geometry of care.

Now rot works through it
like a forgotten language returning
to the mouth.

Apples soften where they land.
Pears remain aloft, unchosen,
moons refusing their eclipse.

The shed folds inward by degrees,
its boards separating from one another
old friends who have exhausted
every story.
Rain collects in the bench.
The wood drinks and drinks,
remembering old thirsts.
The fence gives up its straight lines.
One panel lies down in the nettles,
gravity has won the argument.

Nothing is cleared.
Leaves gather,
brown receipts from a season
that no longer keeps records.

I walk there and feel
time changing shape.
Not passing, but thickening.

Everything she touched
continues the cycle without her.

The trees stand crowded with
their unfinished offerings,
and death hangs on the branches:
a bruised apple
holding one square of light.

Sometimes my words Creep among the cracks and shadows Dancing darkly on the page They don't elicit smiles More a knowing nod of understanding That no one escapes unscathed Memories of hurt that healing can not erase Leave pain seared in sinew and bone Woven into every life #poetry

You Won’t Like This But You Should

Sometimes people are best seen as places,
the one I love
is pure Mumbles:
a Newton Road, displaying its unfussy
honest charm;
that corner table too,
snug
at the back
of Joe’s Icecream;
where blue skies are always within reach
despite the occasional
and hurriedly bussed-through
rain.

I've been robbed of time. My world has become so small. Dreams that used to fill my head, never came to be. Such promise, such hope, died in my bones. Now here I am, worn and shrunk. Wearing my age like a punishment. As the hands of the clock tick away to my grave. #poetry

Jackals roam free While safety’s distance Takes illness for excuse What story’s told For the shaking and torn Tending wounds still weeping They say it’s madness Fearing the keeper’s whip Who joined the jackals jaws Madness may murmur But some wounds see Before the crimson bite #poetry #ptsd

Survivors Once my father said I let it happen, recently he said why did you stay, easy to say he’s old school or dismiss him as a boomer; His words, those ideas, are not unique- I don’t hear the rapist could’ve done something different or the abuser could’ve left; #poetry #survivor

When life has pushed me beyond my limits, will you pick me up off the floor? When my words have dried upon my tongue, will you help me find my voice? When all I need is for someone to be near, will you sit with me in my silence? When my pain subsides, will you still be there? #Poetry

Epstein survivor Danielle Bensky describes the isolation she experienced and the realization that came from finally seeing the scope of the case: “It’s weirdly vindicating to sit here and see in the files like, ‘Oh no, I’m not crazy. This really happened and it happened to so many people.’”

#Writing #Poetry The Grim Reaper spoke: I did not touch him with cold hands. I was the weariness flowing through his veins, the heaviness that closed his eyelids. When his heart beat for the last time, it was not an end, but a coming to rest. A ceasing of resistance against the inevitable.

This poets malady. This dose of doubt. A Pen picked up only to be discarded, disheartened. Snippets of verse tease, retreating without structure or shape. I mope through dull days. A poet without a poem. Swimming in glue. #poetry

fuck this fuck the pretending that everything happens for a reason. fuck the lessons we’re supposed to be grateful for because suffering apparently needs a silver lining. #poem #poetry (As my dad would say I’m currently having an angry miss him)
fuck this
fuck the pretending
that everything happens
for a reason.
fuck the lessons
we’re supposed to be grateful for
because suffering
apparently needs a silver lining.
fuck becoming stronger
when sometimes
we just wanted
to be left unbroken.
fuck the endless instruction
to heal,
grow,
forgive,
begin again.
some days
the most honest prayer
is simply:
fuck this.

Phylica pubescens #poetry
Phylica pubescens

Some poems don't ask to be written
but demand through shaking hands
and teardrops disappearing down
into the pillow case overdue for washing
and the lines don't look nice
nor split into stanzas because
the body keeps the score

And as I write it
in hopes of educating
survivors or people who never had to
I realize it's ineffable

Remind myself I'm safe now
covered in your blanket
and
put the poem down

Falling asleep but awakened
upon realizing, then forgetting

Then another tear and thinking "fuck it"
recalling the terror scraping at my heart
at the verge of climax, then release
blissful for a fucking moment then followed
by tears of shame for fucking decades
because of men who sexualized me as a kid
and that idea of stolen purity turned into
a raging reminder of what we're fighting for
