47 on today's ICE Air flight, the largest on a single flight we've seen here in Minnesota since early February. The national ICE surge other flight trackers are noticing is happening here at MSP as well. Elderly women and construction workers chasing the American dream, sent away in chains. 🧵👇

Bernita Bowlding's brother: "They say that 'We love you, we got you,' but the reality is that this woman is homeless." The white supremacy in the frame and the homelessness outside it. A distinctly American story.

The Aragon Ballroom opened 100 years ago this week. I wrote this story for the Vintage Chicago Tribune page (gift link):

Vintage Tribune: The Aragon Ballroom once lived up to its name, enchanting dancers with music from the 'Waltz King'
The Aragon Ballroom, which later generations experienced mainly as a shabby, sticky home for rock music, was once the North Side’s hub for romance.

On Friday, Minnesota had its 100th ICE Air flight of 2026. It's just another day Signature Aviation, the bizjet terminal - Medtronic's aircraft sits next to the chartered Eastern Air Express 737, as shackled men in shorts and PJ pants hobble aboard. Delta passes by, its passengers unaware. 🧵

Whether or not you support political violence won’t change where we’ve come to, nor where we’ve been for some time in this country. I am quite taken aback by how many people only invoke the term ‘political violence’ when it happens to a person with power. It’s political violence the other way too.

Interrupting Criminalization @interruptcrim.bsky.social · 10/07/2025
This. The narratives or arguments that separate out “criminal” from “innocent” immigrants (this includes when media and politicians emphasize stories of “perfect victims”) are bad—it implies that some people are actually deserving of criminalization and deportation, of cruelty and violence.
“Avoid "perfect victim" narratives and the idea that (im)migrants' value is based on their economic contribution.

Anti-immigrant forces continue to focus public discourse, legislation, and policy on framing migrants as "criminals." In response, some liberals, organizers, legislators, and news outlets tend to focus on separating out "criminal" migrants from "innocent" migrants, highlighting "perfect victims" or only telling stories of children, refugees, or people with a clean record, implying that they are less deserving of deportation or criminalization than those who have been charged with a crime.

Some also advance the common narrative that we should welcome and appreciate migrants because of how much they contribute to the economy — an idea that legitimizes exclusion of disabled migrants and migrants who find themselves in need of government assistance. Instead of seeking out perfect victims, coverage should focus on people's inherent entitlement to humane treatment as a recognition of their full humanity. How they are treated, and whether they receive dignity and access to due process of law, shouldn't depend on whether they have ever been charged with a crime, or what their economic contribution is to the country.”
