From 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. last weekend at @rhizomedc.bsky.social, 20 local musicians provided an ambient, non-melodic soundtrack to an all-night sleepover. Reporter @stephaniejudy.bsky.social found the experience surprisingly resonant:

does the popularity of neo-dadaist, "brain rot" style online content (e.g. Skibidi toilet) mean we can get Gen Z and Gen Alpha into Camp Lo?

Is good schadenfreude, of course, but dynamic-pricing of music is poison for music and culture generally. Live music was, not so long ago, the art form the poor still has ready access to. Pricing kids and the poor out of shows is bad for everybody.

For my money, which I have precious little of, unplugged is entirely acoustic. However, if space demands are such that you need to a) hear everyone then a little amplification wouldn’t hurt, or b) a piano doesn’t fit, maybe an electronic keyboard. But, if a or b, suggest a more intimate venue.

funny, was just listening to mariah carey’s “unplugged” performance and it’s a very generous definition.. i think the guitars gotta be acoustic and the only amped exception is a keyboard/rhodes/wurli etc.

what would you all say counts as unplugged? no electricity at all? 1-2 amps but run clean? do keyboard players get in on this or pianos only? asking for 5 friends

I can report that this was a good set! A unique blend of rock, blues, funk, and some hip-hop inspired vocal techniques in there too. The mix wasn’t great, but not the band’s fault. DMV, go see these guys. And if anyone tries to tell you 3 guitar players is too many, no the fuck it isn’t.
