Italy has informed the European Commission that it will extend border checks with Spain for another 15 days. The checks were introduced in reaction to the Ceuta border crisis. Spain retaliated in kind.

What if EU governments are missing a unique opportunity to show solidarity when challenged from the outside? Genuine or manufactured, Ceuta’s migration crisis is a humanitarian emergency and a test of EU solidarity. The lives affected aren’t nobody’s concern while Meloni and Musk demonize them.

Last week, the EPP adopted a resolution entitled "Restoring Trust in Europe’s Migration System" (see the link below). In it, following the practice of some governments, the EPP is, inter alia, calling on the Commission to allow MS to suspend instrumentalised migrants' right to asylum.

De Spaanse regering introduceerde in april een tijdelijke regeling om mensen die zonder papieren in Spanje verblijven een legale status te geven. Op de laatste aanvraagdag bleek dat daar veel meer gebruik van is gemaakt dan verwacht.
