So I guess... if y'alls want some pozole verde, come over with your own bowl and spoon. We have some radishes for garnishing but we don't have cabbage because the two of us can't eat a cabbage before it goes bad. There's plenty.

I just had to decant to a large stock pot. Added the posole. Added some toasted ground pepitas. Added a bit more pork broth (we have some frozen) to thin it back down. Mind you I'm not eating all of this. I'm giving a bunch of it away to friends.

My 8 qt cast iron is full of pozole and I haven't even added the posole yet. Fortunately there will be some room once the pork bones come out. still. I think I may have to decant to a large stock pot in any case.

I wrote a thread earlier today (before even reading this story, actually) about how commonly the “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story are actually procedural distortions made by people in positions of power who are invested in disbelieving her:

You know what Buddhism is like without the compassion and forbearance for others? A bunch of supercilious "I'm so much more advanced than you and if you did the exhausting prideful things I did to make myself fell superior to you you'd feel better too."

What is it about white people appropriating the language of Asian spiritual traditions and then going around and accusing us of being wounded or damaged when we call them out on their wandering around telling people who are wounded by life to use their magical thinking to fix everything?

Melissa Wong @favomancer.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Like, my sibling in Guanyin, you are NEVER going to be white. They are never going to accept you no matter how many of us you step on to prove you're just as good. And if you stop pulling up the ladder behind you, then maybe you might have a way back down to us when you need our support.

I honestly see this as an echo of what some ethnic Chinese people had to deal with a few years ago; they falsely assumed, that they were self-reliant, educated, working in high-paying fields, that they were as good as white Republicans. Then they encountered what it was be like to be the Other.

I’ve resisted calling ICE arrests/detention “disappearances.” But now ICE’s apparent policy is that in some cases, you might not even know if your loved one is still in the US. IDK what else to call that. documentedny.com/2026/10/02/i...

The Throughline: Is ICE “Disappearing” Detainees?
ICE is deliberately withholding the locations of some detainees from lawyers and loved ones. At what point does that amount to “disappearing” them?

I don't go around telling them to meditate as I do. I don't go around claiming to be Enlightened. Nobody can be enlightened until they leave the cycle, and you know what? There's more good I can do here. So why don't you get off your high horse and stop bothering strangers online?

The white nationalists are turning up the dial on racism against South Asian USians. Will we talk about the fact that the dial has been up on anti-Blackness among this same group for decades? Because I think that it's a barrier to solidarity.

Sometimes you go on co-op bombing missions, which means there's a second person sitting behind the pilot with a bunch of loose bombs rolling around in the footwell, and they have to pick them up with their hands, light them, and drop them over the side of the plane.

Concept: multiplayer aerial combat sim based on the first couple of years of World War I where nobody knew how air combat worked yet and rival pilots were just tooling around at double-digit air speeds plinking at each other with handguns from the open cockpits of their unarmed plywood death traps.

Old-fashioned tweeds often smell a bit like pee when wet because the crottle (lichen) dyes are often activated by ammonia, which... yes, come from aged pee. So as a fibers and textile person I'm amazed these people are drinking theirs instead of using it for a useful purpose like dyeing. Wasteful!

Melissa Wong @favomancer.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
They also used aged urine, or "lant", to launder garments. The urea broke down into ammonia, which helped lift stains. Can't have been pleasant-smelling, though.

Cato the Elder said that bathing in a cabbage-drinker's pee would keep you healthy. You didn't even HAVE to be the person eating the cabbage, it was just any cabbage eater's. But I think his fetish was cabbages, not pee.

A proper jack o'lantern carved from a tumshie, a hideous leathery visage like the head of some terrible burn victim left languishing in an insane asylum for decades, the bandages stained filthy to the point of solidity, with a sick sheen. Pumpkins? Pfft!

The Singaporean Malay name for the house gecko, "cicak", is also onomatopoeia. And I grew up with them cute little guys everywhere in the flat. Sometimes we'd find dried out eggshells in crevices and know that a baby cicak was currently roaming the place eating ants and other smol bugs.
