there’s a world where disney do understand this and put every comic on an app for free day one and use shonen jump style popularity tracking to decide what movies to make and it would a) destroy the comics industry overnight and b) obviously make them way more money in the long run

I once had to read and respond to an essay, for a middle school standardized test of all things, that encouraged young readers to not always give stories a standard "the hero wins the big game" type ending... like Rocky. Even as a child who had not seen the film I knew that wasn't right.
