Yup. I always know what symptoms I’m experiencing, I just don’t always know what to attribute them to. Is it one of my diagnosed illnesses acting up, or a new passing illness, or a new Chronic Illness, etc. that I’ll have to add to the list? Frustrating & scary. Sorry you’re sick with Influenza.☹️

Steve Irwin: Here we see the chronically ill woman having a rare good day. Notice how she immediately makes plans. This will be her downfall. She has no idea her body is merely luring her into a false sense of security.

I keep thinking that I just need to get a better handle on things and find improvements to my daily struggles. I need to catch up and find a more realistic daily survival routine that I can actually accomplish. Then I might have some energy for “extras”, including photography. My camera is waiting!

I’ve had a lot of health setbacks that I’m currently struggling through. Every day that I’m not bedridden, my energy is spent doing basic daily survival tasks. Trying to get my head above water for long enough to take a breath before I sink back down. My camera has been by my front door for months.

I love Nature & Wildlife Photography. ❤️ I love looking at your photos, and taking and posting my own photos. My health problems keep me very limited, but I have a cool yard with great photo opportunities, if I can just get outside with my camera. I haven’t been able to do that for over a year. 😔📷

Disability can be incredibly lonely, and I often wish sometimes that I had someone, but then I remember that someone else's ableism is really hard to manage, and I'm okay on my own. It's okay to choose yourself as a disabled person.

I feel exactly the same way. It is one of the main reasons that I gave up on relationships and quit dating. Also, I no longer try to meet people and make new friends IRL. I’m not very socially active anymore. It does get lonely sometimes, but I’m okay on my own.

Yes! The misunderstanding is so frustrating, and harmful. It feels a little surreal sometimes to be experiencing that level of fatigue. On top of that, to have others brush it off as something not as serious, debilitating, and excruciating as it actually is… Like, how is this happening?! Ugh! 😩

I woke up and looked out the window to greet the day. (Yes, it’s past noon, I have sleep disorders 🥴). Saw a Robin having a soak in the birdbath, and a Squirrel doing parkour on trees & stumps. I love that my yard is full of critters doing critter stuff. They’re part of my housebound entertainment.

Post you from a different era in your life. Around 15 years ago. - Up in the air as a passenger on a powered paraflite ride. Loved it! - At my favorite beach on Lake Michigan. That was the last time I was there.
Me with a helmet and sunglasses on and a smile in my face, because I was so happy to be flying up in the air as a passenger in a powered paraflite ride.Me sitting on the beach with sunglasses on. With the sandy beach, Lake Michigan, and the sky in the background.

One thing anyone can do in solidarity with people with Severe ME is to help bring us into the public consciousness by checking out and sharing the Sundance-premiered, Oscar-shortlisted doc UNREST, free on YT. A love story and rare glimpse at people so ill with ME that you’ll never see us in public.

I’m glad to hear that it’s gotten a lot easier. I can’t imagine how hard it was before the internet. Before I found information and the ME/CFS community online, I was SO lost. I had finally been diagnosed, but still spent years after diagnosis sitting around not knowing what that diagnosis meant.

Medically Induced Hermit @fallsthroughcracks.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
Same- I don’t know anybody who knows anybody with ME/CFS. I am always the only one with it AND the only one they know with it. I’m the only IRL representation of a #pwme to everyone I interact with in person. And I “Don’t Look Sick”. So it’s often not a positive experience for me when it comes up.

I’ve been burned a lot when sharing about it. I struggle between wanting to just keep quiet to avoid how miserably my attempts may backfire and create harmful misunderstandings, and thinking it’s worth it because planting a seed of knowledge could potentially help them or someone they know someday.

Medically Induced Hermit @fallsthroughcracks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
That’s gotta be hard to have someone in your grasp who could potentially understand you and connect with your experiences, but won’t. 😔

I know it’s possible that I have come across people with ME/CFS, and they either didn’t know they had it or didn’t tell me. And alone is hard. But I do realize that a horrible downside to not being the only one with it means people in your real life, who you likely deeply care about, are suffering.

Medically Induced Hermit @fallsthroughcracks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
I’ve had ME/CFS for decades. I’ve NEVER met another person in real life with ME/CFS. I live my life as the only one with ME/CFS in ALL of my real life interactions. That’s been hard. I only know so much about other #pwme because of the internet. Is it common for you to be the only one IRL too?

When disability happens to you, you won’t be able to just “try harder”. The social supports you think magically appear? They won’t show up. The medical system will let you down. Friends & family will abandon you. You will realize disability advocates were right all along.

To be fair, I am also supportive and cheer Steve on. I even occasionally clap with pride and gratitude when he does a good job with an obstacle. So I am not just a big meanie. My interactions with my robot vacuum are usually well balanced. Just not lately.

Medically Induced Hermit @fallsthroughcracks.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
I’ve been yelling at my robot vacuum a lot lately. He (Steve McClean) seems to get confused more often now when attempting to adapt to furniture rearrangements and map changes. I live alone and keep yelling out, “WTF Steve?! Get your sh*t together!”. That’s probably confusing to the neighbors.

Disability is not a vacation. It’s a 24/7 job You’re forced into legislated poverty You have to endure ableism, abandonment and constant gaslighting You live with pain & suffering that would send most folks to the hospital. You fight for medical care, social supports & dignity. It’s not easy.

I was an Occupational Therapy Assistant until I became too ill to work (many years ago). There are so many benefits that Occupational Therapy can provide. I believe it was valuable work, and was proud to do it. As your experience in this post shows, it takes a variety of helpers to get through it.

It’s been so long since I’ve been able to remember the feeling of being alive, free, and hopeful in a healthier body. It was a lighter feeling than chronically ill life is now. The smell of today’s fresh spring air kept briefly taking me back to better springtimes from my past, and it felt SO nice.

"My disabilities do stop me. They control when I can shower, walk, eat, talk, and move. They stop me from working and socializing. They stop me from being able to leave bed. They interfere with me being able to process information, remember things, follow conversations, understand things, read, and write. My disabilities have completely flipped over my entire life. They destroyed my dreams and goals. Saying "don't let your disability stop you!" Isn't kind like you think it is."

I’m left-handed, but I can only snap my fingers on my right hand. This confuses me. I feel like since I have better fine motor control with my left hand, it should not be the Dud in this finger snapping situation.
