Security footage (stylised in green) labeled “Camera 1: Front” shows Ashley Lovell in front of an automated spiked gate. He is glancing around as he reaches inside his satchel for a medium-sized box. Dahlia continues, “Usually it’s just documents or a flash drive. But that’s a package, right? It’s a package. Why would it be a package? Gasp! Maybe it’s a bomb.” While she’s talking Lake stays focused on watching Ashley somewhat sheepishly using his foot to scoot the parcel further beyond the gate before he again glances around to leave. Lake turns his attention to a set of heavy double doors in front of himself. “Wait-! Dammit!” He thinks. “He’s just on the other side of those doors, but it’s broad daylight… He’s already leaving, I don’t have time to get a valet to let him in- maybe if I opened the gates…? No, that looks like a trap…” He grimaces. “What would I even say? It’s not like I have an update on the girl.” Behind him Dahlia trudges off saying “May as well bring it in… Think I saw a valet in the kitchen.” Lake’s thoughts continue, “I wish… at the very least… I could thank him.”

Lake facepalms against a stark black backdrop, lowering the monitor. “Yeah, because that went so well the last time!” He thinks. The page transitions to a sepia-toned flashback. From a higher vantage, Lake looks down to see Ashley in werewolf form chasing the Nymph from the other night. “Woah, a werewolf…” He thinks, then- “Wait, isn’t that THE werewolf? So fast… Looks like it’s just the Nymph? He’ll handle that no problem.” Struck by an idea, he smacks his fist on his palm. “Hold on! Isn’t this my chance? I’ll wait until he decommissions it, then while he’s in a good mood I’ll come out to congratulate him, introduce myself, and maybe get to thank him for all the info he’s been sneaking us!” (Genius!) In bat-swarm form, he follows Ashley, thinking “okay!”. Ashley’s jean button flies off and he crashes into the dumpster. “Okay…” Ashley dives for the Nymph and misses, whining “nooo”, and bat-Lake panics, thinking “Oh, shit, does he need help-!?”

A splatter in the top corner represents Lake defeating the Nymph (gya…) and he lands on the ground with a little smile. “Alright! I was actually useful! Now he knows he can trust me!” He thinks, starting to lower his hood while Ashley puts his earring back in. “Should I say hello or just cut straight to the- Wait… I kinda… just watched him beef it… I think his fly is undone…? And then I showed up to killsteal when he- HIS DOGS ARE OUT.” This thought is depicted in jpeg artefacted meme font superimposed over Ashley’s nasty hairy feet straight out on the alley concrete with stagnant water and broken glass and a razor blade and an old syringe as Lake stares at them dastardly. A pair of cartoon dog catchers in a van blow the whistle yelling “Somebody get these dogs off the streets!” Lake’s eyes snap back up to Ashley’s face, who is staring back like a pathetic wet dog against a backdrop of a violin in puke green. Lake whips away thinking “I didn’t see anything!! I didn’t do anything!! I’m not even here! I’ll try again next time! This one doesn’t count!!” Behind him Ashley’s ass is so plump and so sad

Lake fidgets pointedly with the broken shell from the decommissioned Nymph, squatting, pretending not to notice Ashley, haunted like a bobble headed doll. “I only came here for the Naucleus (sic), that’s right all I want is the Naucleus,” he thinks, “I wasn’t trying to upstage you, it was coincidence, you can just go I won’t look.” Ashley steps up all wide-eyed and sparkling behind him like “Um-!” and Lake’s thoughts are in bold font “Fuuuuuucckk he’s trying to talk to meeee what the fuck am I supposed to sayyy?” He is so wrapped up in his own thoughts that they block the viewer from anything Ashley is actually saying as Ashley speaks nervously with his hands. Lake: “It’s lowkey amazing how he can just bounce back like that though, how does he do it, I would blow myself up for real. No wait shit I’ve made things awkward, now he’s trying to fill in the silence because I’m not saying anything (which is probably super weird). Fuck dammit the time to say thank you has completely passed it would just come off as sarcastic- wait, did he just thank me?? For taking out the Nymph?” Lake peeks over his shoulder, still thinking- “No way dude, that was a fluke, I’ve watched you handle way worse than that before- No don’t say that (metaphorically covers mouth), then he’ll be like WDYM you’ve been watching me- but he has nothing to thank me for! It really wasn’t a big deal-” Chad meme redraw Lake saying “Not like it was hard.” in the ugliest Power Point Presentation-looking Comic Sans speech bubble you’ve ever seen in your life. Lake cringes with his whole face and imagines himself lying back to stake himself through the heart while Lake has been scalped completely bald in the background. The panels transition back to the present as Lake drags his hand down his face. “I couldn’t even say ‘You’ve already done so much for us’ without being interrupted… I mean, I’m glad we were interrupted, but…” Behind him the valet hands Dahlia the package. “Here it is.” “Thank you.”
