it's really so weird that the film does the "actually, demons are victims of gwi-ma too" bit with BOTH its main characters, but then expects us to think that this fact ONLY applies to those two characters, and every other demon just is a depthless monster to be banished forever without sympathy.

so, it's clear: the golden honmoon is Wrong. the dream of celine - to categorically reject, rather than connect with, demons/shame, forever - is bad; we need to do something else. but then, no. the finale is ultimately a vindication of celine - she was a little strict, but she was right. huh?

yeah, you're hitting on a contradiction in the film's themes that still bothers me. the film does a great job communicating that: - shame is the source of demons (rumi, jinu) - isolation/alienation are how demons feed on people - categorical hatred of demons is another source of shame and isolation

early into townfall - not sure about the gameplay, but man, the vibes are on point. i love that silent hill can be anywhere.

two men standing in a misty town square. one is looking in horror at the other - who is upright, eyes closed, with lumpy black fluid dribbling down his chest, and some sort of medical tube running into his mouth and down his throat. the other end of the tube extends into the sky.

an unlit room with cold blue concrete walls. through a doorway is a long hallway with metal grated floors, and a bright red light - almost white - fills the hallway from under the floor.

a humanoid creature rears back in pain. its body is distorted flesh, its arms are bound in front of it by a messy arrangement of gauze tape, and is smeared face is interrupted by a flat metal plate that runs through it, down the middle.

i think the more i hear it, the more i hate "golden" by huntr/x. don't think i have a good reason or anything, ultimately, something about it just sounds really grating. doesn't help that the movie itself introduces the song by having the main character repeatedly fuck it up, i guess

huh. that's funny. i wonder if that was the intention from the outset, or if the process was like, tweaking the boulder to get the size of the projectile right, and then scaling them up a bit to not look goofy holding the boulder above their head. then again, this game loves being goofy.
