The Movement Against Antizionism (MAAZ) states that the point of leveling libels against Zionists/Jews isn't to establish the truth of events but to sustain a narrative that marks Jews as deserving exclusion and violence. In law, libel concerns false and damaging statements about identifiable individuals or corporations. Anti-Jewish libel is different. It concerns the construction of Jews—an ethnoreligious group—as an object of accusation. Most antizionist libels are false, but anti-Jewish libel is not defined simply by the falsity of particular claims. It is a pattern of obsessive accusation that transforms isolated incidents into evidence of an essential Jewish character. Individual allegations become proof of what Jews supposedly are: colonizers, racists, child-killers, or perpetrators of genocide.
