For me, it was realising that I do in four hours of hyperfocus what a normal person would do in a normal day's work; if, on the other hand, I try to work a normal eight-hour day, it becomes a shambles of hyperfocus and depressed, angsty crashes.

One disadvantage of having a hyperreal imagination paired with training in music: for the past two days, I have had never-ending improvised instrumental funk music playing in my brain. It's like if Joe Dart got possessed by the concept of the Shepard tone.

So, in happy news, this actually isn't correct: my centrelink operator was just wrong/I didn't communciate effectively. At the same time, the centrelink site doesn't make this easy to work out.

Unpopular opinion: mm/dd > dd/mm BUT dd/mm/yyyy > mm/dd/yyyy BUT yyyy-mm-dd > dd/mm/yyyy At the same time, writing 1 BCE as +0000 is an abomination and ISO must be brought to justice.

The biblical scholar's version of getting hit with a "well actually, in the Greek it says … " is "well actually, that's a straightforward use in Classical Greek/Imperial Aramaic/Ugaritic/Akkadian."

I am reading a work of academic theology published by a reputable publisher. Not only are there numerous mistakes that should have been picked up by an editor, but seemingly every reference to the New Testament apocalypse identifies it as "the book of Revelations."

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.

Seeing this post made me realise how much my mental image of Delilah has been shaped by a tradition of exoticism/orientalism in the Western art canon. (My first thought was "why does Delilah look like Maria Theresa?" but I think that's just I played too much Civ 5 at one point.)

Making a shortlist of easy small meal ideas has really highlighted the way that my autism brain likes working out This One Recipe. Like, yes, there's "fruit and yoghurt" on the list, but there's also "my fine-tuned oat bread," "absurdly-high-fibre soup," and "fried paprika chicken hearts."

I'm not a fan of the attitude toward preaching that demands the preacher come in even when they're sick. Like, if you're coughing from the pulpit, I'm now deciding whether I stay and talk to people or whether I leave early to protect my disabled, home-bound wife. 1/4
