and thats not even getting the fact that rape victims are pressured into silence, because in our society rape victims tend to not be taken seriously, and worse if someone learns who they are they run the risk of getting harassed, sent death threats, and humiliated.

if a boat gets stolen it can be replaced. if a house gets torn down it can be rebuilt. if valuables are stolen they can be retrieved. but there is no reparation for rape or sexual assault, the victim just gets to be haunted by the trauma for their entire life.

to anyone asking "when do you forgive an abuser?", i think that question cannot be addressed without being cognizant of the imperative fact that rape and sexual assault cause *permanent, irreparable damage* to the victim's psyche. statistically, a victim of rape becomes unable to lead a normal life.
