This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe. "Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.

I've been writing on AO3 since 2010 and maybe this number is normal for some fic writers but for me this is just madness, my first fic to hit 4 figures of kudos?
Cropped screenshot of the 'stats' page on AO3, showing a fic with 46k hits and 1004 kudos. The 1004 is circled because it is insane.

If you’re ever wondering whether person (x) is reasonable or whether they’re just a hooting wingnut crackpot, then I have always found “do they have serious, very aggro beef with Amnesty International” is one of the best indicators.

NEW: JK Rowling and other gender-critical campaigners have reacted furiously after a report from Amnesty International called them 'anti-rights' organisations
The author has accused human rights group Amnesty of believing women don't deserve rights in response

My flat was 27c this morning after having windows open all night, it did not take long to decide I was not WFH today (I usually do on Fridays)

Me most of the last decade: writing fanfic? Yeah I think that part of my life may be in the past... Me the last 4 months: writing over 70k of heated rivalry fanfic with several chapters to go (and plot bunnies waiting in the wings) 🤷‍♀️

I had thunderstorms overnight which made my walk to work quite pleasant. I'm not looking forward to the walk home (where hopefully all of my now closed windows and curtains - having been open through the rain - will keep my flat at least liveable)

Finished typing up chapter 19 of my fanfic hours ago, opened new page in notebook to start chapter 20. So far in several hours I have written the word 'ilya'. (it's not even that I don't know what happens in the start of this chapter, I do. Just need to actually write... something)

I've been listening on audio (they're my current 'driving' audios) but they're available in paperback (the first one was good I'm still partway through the 2nd), Sarina Bowen's 'Hockey Guys' series

Maybe it's just that it's been a decade since I posted new fic, maybe it's that the Heated Rivalry fandom is bonkers, but my WIP that I posted *4 weeks ago* is already the fic with the 2nd most hits of the entire 106 fics I have on AO3 across various fandoms and 15 years. #1 was posted in 2010...

book 6 of this particular series takes place July 2020 to July 2021. Literally nothing in it would happen quite the same in the real circumstances of that year. Some of it better for the characters and some of it worse. Of course I thought of the worse first...

this is 'what if events from book canon (for the 'gay hockey show' series) but with vaguely-real-world covid restrictions from the time'. I thought of one particular event that would be kind of extra torture for the characters... but I obviously had to write things starting from March 2020...

I am... Somewhere around 48k into my current fic (I still need to type up the last 2 chapters from my handwritten notebook). I am about to write the chapter containing the original concept I had for the fic back in February (when I wasn't even going to write it...)

this is what 'reusing a couple bits of footage and adding new bits to the prologue of the new movie' is for. I have been a big MCU buff, own all the films on bluray etc, and I have no interest in going to the cinema to see a very slightly changed version of a film I already saw...

...having 90 AO3 subscriptions after posting 2 chapters of my WIP (a week apart) is pretty good motivation to keep going and actually finish it. (given the fandom it's probably relatively low but it's a way higher number than I've had on there before!)

Seriously Guardian? The pope relating Jesus's teachings to the current situation is what a pope should do. Saying that the pope is feuding, quarreling, etc., with the Drumpfster fire is ludicrous. If anyone is being argumentative it is the regime because they want to make this a [unholy!] holy war.

I’ve given this a great deal of thought, trying to come up with the perfect joke for this moment, and this is what I have so far - POPE LEO: our religion teaches that this war is bad VANCE: wow, who died and made YOU head of the Catholic Church?? POPE LEO: well, you should know, you were there
screencap of a tweet with a photo at the bottom of JD Vance giving a talk, gesturing smugly with his hands

Eric Daugherty • @EricLDaugh • 1h
• JD VANCE RESPONDS TO POPE LEO:
"When the Pope says that God is never on the side of those who wield the sword - there is more than a THOUSAND year tradition of Just war Theory."

"In the same way that it's important for the vice president of the United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy, I think it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology."

"And I think that one of these issues here is that there has been - if you're going to opine on matters of theology, you've got to be careful, you've got to make sure it's anchored in the truth, and that's one of the things that I try to do, and it's certainly something I would expect from the clergy, whether they're Catholic or Protestant."

playoff games can also in theory last indefinitely. if there's a tie after 60 minutes they just play another 20 minutes of sudden death overtime (after a standard intermission). If no one scores, they play another 20. And another 20.

Erin @etmuse.uk · 14/04/2026
Money (each team gets at least 2 home games per round they make it to) and also I guess an attempt to account for the level of 'randomness' in hockey in order to be sure they get the right winner. The better coaches can adjust their strategy through a playoff series to fit their opponent

A mock news-style graphic mimicking a broadsheet layout. At the top is a circular headshot of a man with a shaved head, thick dark moustache with extended sides, and a serious, slightly raised-eyebrow expression, wearing a dark T-shirt. Beneath the image, the name “FARBOD BABOLHAVAEJI” appears in uppercase. A large bold headline reads: “I don’t give a fuck what James Dyson thinks — and neither should you.” Below it, a small orange square icon sits next to the word “NEW.” The body text reads: “Billionaires who flee the UK to dodge the taxes that built their wealth can fuck off with their opinions on how this country should be run. If you’ve taken the money and run, you don’t get to lecture the people who stayed.” The design uses a clean white background with black serif text, styled to resemble a newspaper opinion piece.

Unimprovable opening to Private Eye’s review of Matt Goodwin’s ‘book’
Photo of the opening paragraph of a book review: White trash
Suicide of a nation
Matt Goodwin (Northstar, £12.99)
Matt Goodwin bills Suicide of a Nation as “the book they don't want you to read". Well, it's certainly a book I didn't want me to read. Goodwin, a former centrist academic turned Reform's in-house intellectual (who recently lost the Gordon and Denton by-election), has cultivated a social media presence somewhere between Kevin the Teenager and Roderick Spode. It felt unlikely he'd be more bearable at greater length.
