Given the other police violence, beatings of protesters, preventing medics getting to the scene, numerous arrests, targeting & threatening of journalists... and the underlying cause of the TNI law, I'd say state violence to supress the protests. Also this though 👇
Sign saying Judging a demonstration by its most violent participants but NOT judging a police force by its most violent cops is the language of the oppressor.

What is happeningin Indonesia ?
27 years after the end of Soeharto's dictatorship in 1998, today Indonesia is officially slipping back into military dictatorship.
Just a few hours ago, the Parliament has passed the Military Law despite the ongoing mass protests, bringing military-backed dictatorship in Indonesia to reality.
This shift threatens Indonesia's hard-won democratic norms. The consequences include:
Erosion of civil liberties & political freedoms;
Weakened civilian oversight of securityforces;
Increased risk of human rights violations;
Compromised judicial independence;
Deterioration of press freedom;
Regression to authoritarian governance patterns.

I believe that many of my international friends whom I connect here on instagram would care enough to take a look, spread awareness, or even help taking actions on our current growing concerns.

Especially my fellow Southeast Asians or international peers whom I met at diplomatic events/simulations, I am sure that we know how Indonesia's democratic journey has been an inspiration across the region. However, its continued success also needs your help. We need you to help us voicing this resistance. If you're working on
media/govt institutions, please back us up and support
