The dress code said “wear a tuxedo”. Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Black and white photo of a clean shaven young white man wearing a white cowboy hat standing outside in the sun. On top of the hat is perched a little shorthaired black tuxedo kitten.

Nolan's Odyssey is unbelievably/unforgettably effective in showing the horrors of war but certain character arcs are super hard to relate to and why oh whyyy did they cast THIRTY YEAR old Tom Holland who *does* look every bit of thirty to play a 20-year-old?! probably my biggest issue with the movie

It has been criminally underreported but Kelsey Pfendler has just rowed solo across the Pacific Ocean from the US coast to Hawaii in record time. A 2,400-mile unsupported journey in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes. Notably beating the Men’s record by 9 whole days.

Disclosure Day for sure is everything its many critics hate about it but it's also a fantastically magical ride, was fully immersed the whole time, never checked my watch (rare/unheard for me) 10/10, Spielberg still has it, highly recommend ❤️ 🎬 👽

reddit post

White lotus was so boring I couldn’t watch the episodes in order. I had to lottery them to see which I would watch - that made it much more interesting!

I've been experimenting with various fountain pen inks recently, looking for the best one to use with watercolors. Here are my results! I let them all dry for about 24 hours before painting over them with watercolor. My personal overall choice for standing up to watercolor is the Diamine Raven ink.
A list of identical ink tests, on cold press watercolor paper.

For each test, I let the fountain pen ink dry for roughly 24 hours before applying watercolor paint. I painted over the words "ink test" with plain water, and then applied identical paint to everything else.

Platinum's Chou Kuro is by far the blackest black (even more so in person) but it also sheds a lot of pigment when you apply water to it. It made a very visible grey blur from the water.

Platinum's Carbon Black is much more waterproof, but the black ink is not as dark.

Pentel's black fountain pen ink was completely unaffected by water or watercolors, but it's only available in Pentel cartridges as far as I'm aware, so it's more expensive and would be a pain to use in any non-Pentel pen.

Diamine Forever Raven ink was also completely waterproof. It's not as dark as the Chou Kuro ink but it's darker than the Platinum Carbon Black. I have experimented with this ink elsewhere and found that it also dries to a waterproof state faster than any of these other inks - in my experience, it only needs around 20 minutes.

The last test was Diamine Forever Butterscotch, a warm sienna brown. It also performed really well. The Diamine Forever inks are mixable, so this could be mixed with the Raven to make a brown-black.

Overall I think the best option is the Diamine Raven. It's darker than Carbon Black and dries faster, and it comes in a bottle so you can more easily use it in any pen.

WORD FACT (February 1st) “Tragedy” means “goat song” and nobody really knows why. “Tragedy” comes from Ancient Greek τραγῳδία (tragōidía) = τράγος (trágos) [goat] + ᾠδή (ōidḗ) [song or ode]. [1/2]

This was such a fun photo to set up, taken by Thomas Reiter through a sleep station window on Mir. The sun was so bright we were all squinting like crazy. But I love how it shows the texture of the Shuttle's rough, protective hide, and the glimpse of humanity (and my moustache) against the universe.

At bottom, a black and white chart labeled "Paranormal Distribution," showing the curved line transformed into a typical ghost (a floating white sheet draped over an upright body) with two dark dots for eyes.
