ICE and/or police murdered someone this morning in Biddeford, Maine. From the statements I’ve seen from local activists, I *think* the victim was a young Black man. You may already know Black immigrants are the largest non-white immigrant demo in Maine. A protest is already under way.

How State Dual Licensure Policies Relate to the Number of Prepared Teachers in Special Education

ABSTRACT
As more students with disabilities are educated in inclusive classrooms, dual licensure policies have emerged as a promising strategy to improve the quality of special education teaching. However, there are concerns that these policies might worsen the chronic shortage of special education teachers by introducing additional requirements for teaching candidates. This study seeks to explore these concerns by examining the association between state dual licensure policies and the number of prepared special education teachers. We analyzed Title II data in conjunction with policy enactment data collected from various sources in three states. Our findings indicate that, overall, the policy was not significantly associated with the number of prepared teachers. We discuss these results in the context of their implications for future research and policy.

NEW—US Department of Education sent out standard Out of Office language to employees on Wednesday in light of shutdown. Later yesterday, workers tell me they found someone had updated their auto-responses without consent to a new one blaming Democrats. Version of original on left, updated on right:
Thank you for your email. There is a temporary shutdown of the U.S. government due to a lapse in appropriations. I will respond to your message as soon as possible after the temporary shutdown ends. Please visit ED.gov for the latest information on the
Department's operational status.
Thank you.Thank you for contacting me. On September 19, 2025, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, a clean continuing resolution. Unfortunately, Democrat Senators are blocking passage of H.R. 5371 in the Senate which has led to a lapse in appropriations. Due to the lapse in appropriations I am currently in furlough status. I will respond to emails once government functions resume.

The message is very clear, from @drmbothapsych.bsky.social when you dehumanise people in research people disengage morally from the outcomes. E.g. you can do research that harms, but you don't care, because you've morally disconnected from those in your research. This is happening in autism research
