For my 💰 it’s less a literacy and more a noise/attention crisis. Just relentlessly bombarded all day long with five second algorithmic shiny objects. Reading becomes difficult because it requires sustained attention. There are actual culprits in this scheme, corporations feeding us this garbage…

Betsy's right, though. I do wonder if the reason tutoring stands out as particularly effective is because it's so often a *targeted* intervention, which raises questions about differences in effect sizes for universal vs targeted programs.

Perfect timing! High-quality curriculum is in the "more effective, lower cost" quadrant. I suspect that effectively implementing curriculum is higher cost than we think. E.g. coaching could be helpful, and that shows up in the "more effective, higher cost" quadrant. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/28/u...
