Lack of empathy is a rampant problem in our political system. Justice Kavanaugh cannot imagine being stuck in a Salvadoran prison while the courts figured out he was deported improperly, and AOC cannot imagine what it would be like to be a hundred millionaire and have a 3% higher tax rate!

Lethal injection is incredibly painful. They don't use that cocktail on animals bc it is too cruel. The victims are paralyzed so that the viewers and executioners aren't traumatized by the cocktail's effects. Firing squad or hanging are both more humane, cut it offends the viewers and executioners.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

Political candidates who I hope win are texting me asking me for money after buying my number from some other candidates I donated too many cycles ago. You will not get my money. If a business or individual emails, calls, or texts me unsolicited they get nothing. To quote Logan Roy, "Fuck off!"

An underrated thing about AI is that it will likely promote a lot of uniformity among ppl with no taste or style -- which will hopefully raise the cache of ppl who have individual taste or style -- which AI will then replicate -- increasing the cache of the next person with tas.... etc etc.

Ppl go on about how Putin and the Iranian gov't will let their citizens suffer as a sign of how corrupt or bad they are .. but that's what every country does. Trump is doing it now, FDR did it before. The question is not the willingness to let ppl suffer but why you are making them suffer.

My mother observed that young people are so much ruder than they were in the past .. which I disputed bc old ppl always think young ppl are assholes. But, COVID (and I would argue the Trump Presidency) made most of society a lot ruder in a really terrible way .. so she wasn't exactly wrong.

George W Bush was an all-timer bad President. Ranking near Hoover and Johnson (not LBJ, the other one) as among the worst. He royally fucked up the world and diminished America for all time. We will be lucky to see an R presidential nominee as good as him in the next 20 years.

So-called “inclusionary zoning,” the practice of requiring home builders to rent new apartments at a loss to low-income tenants, is a tax on new housing that worsens the housing shortage and raises rents overall in exchange for a handful of means-tested units. It’s bad policy!

We could also just let them freely sell their water rights, which effectively isn't allowed. Same result: growing cheap alfalfa stops making sense when someone will pay several times more for the water. Let them have their windfall if that's what it takes. It's literally cheaper to buy them off.

Breaking Bad should be much lower on the list. The main character turns out to not be very interesting, and the tension comes from incredibly contrived moments. #s 2, 3, and 4 are much better on both accounts.

I often wonder what to do about long-term commercial vacancies as commercial real estate owners have low holding costs and can wait for a "perfect" renter. It may just be that the threat of competition from new builds is enough.

This is a very funny take because: 1) A successful AI program "should" be breaking the boundaries put around it; but 2) laziness, incompetence, and general failures to deliver do seem like a much more likely explanation for breeches.

I think he: 1. Earnestly believes the risk; 2. Thinks that if they don't do the research, someone else will, but they are the good guys so they should do it; 3. believees that 2 > 1 bc of a huge paycheck. Nothing more complicated. He needs his avarice to be a virtue.
