Being overly fussy about this *may* kill you; I've done long voiceover projects that have to be done over weeks. It's with the same mic, etc. — but no matter what my voice will shift around a little. Also, once learned one can greatly improve varied sounding takes with good EQ/dynamics in a DAW.

It’s an unpalatable truth, but Meta, TikTok, and hopefully it goes without saying, X, aren’t sustainable to rely on for political amplification, cultural promotion/marketing or community organizing. It’s long past time for new platforms/means and to move on.

So many client sites would start with mock-ups from non-web savvy designers, then have to be completely re-done during the build process, with team friction, which added quite-a-bit more scope. Sadly it's nearly impossible to sell a client on doing it this way — or designing the home page last.

As to Mastodon and Blue Sky; I've felt a breath of fresh air from the firehouse of content that Twitter had become, and get more specific and curated interactions unique to each of those. Social media is different now — but also it takes time to re-build; That's happening, albeit slowly.

I too still feel the loss of Twitter, but when the API was converted to a 10k-a-month subscription a lot of us were kicked-out without warning. Totally user-hostile behavior, so I was out. I didn't want the forced algorithm vs the TweetBot hierarchical synchronized read items with no ads.

Vector art from Adobe Stock has an .ai file extension even if it's actually EPS. EPS isn't losslessly compressed and is typically 3x the file size of .ai. I have a batch action that re-saves those as native .ai. It's a strange dance.

Adobe Illustrator formats are weird about embedding multiple formats within; Each .ai file that has previews enabled has a print-ready PDF file embedded within — that can be read w/o looking at the EPS or AI content, and is a workaround when one gets a corrupted .ai file.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

I don't see that in Safari 27 on Sequoia (yes, I have skipped Tahoe and won't move to Golden Gate till a few point releases are out). That looks like CSS flex box stretch being mishandled.

Trump's rather fixed position and head movements look like he's struggling to read a teleprompter and get through the filming as quickly as possible. I've seen other videos where he moves jerkily like that.

In this case I think his hands look better than usual, but the reflection of said hands matches the motion, which AI might mess up, so retouched maybe, but not fully generated.

I'm a video pro, though not an expert on detecting AI in all circumstances. Via a quick watch this doesn't look AI-generated though it could have had some post-processing to smooth skin/de-age (not uncommon these days). The resolution is low, which does hide a lot of detail as well.

Or what's stopping AI bots from scraping it all and offering it through paid subscription? I use a constantly updating robots.txt AI bot kill list for a number of client sites; So does css-tricks (I checked) — though its bot list is almost ~9 months out of date and missing 2/3rds of known bots.

I see too many apps with janky embedded web views (Electron). Perhaps that's what's going on here given that the App Store exists in browsers as-well-as the native apps. Text-overflow is usually a fallback for constrained or specific circumstances; Seeing it in this context is a total WTF.

Sure, I'd potentially add a site like CSS-Tricks as a "preferred source", but shouldn't the algorithm be capable of simply sorting that out already?

Same stigma happened with table tags after years of invisible tables being the best way to control web layout. Table tag markup is both semantic and less fuss than defining a similar grid for tabular data in a lot of cases. It's funny how sometimes "display: table" solves other problems as well.

"Clearfix" veterans (like me) are still shellshocked from years of layout hacking to achieve intended design. But float's original intended layout use is as valid as it ever was — and can be less markup in some situations. It's nice to have layout markup options too!

From my experience designing movie posters, then sharing a comprehensive set of layouts for different uses: Someone else will upload a thumbnail to online service, ignore my specific variations and pick a wrong version — or poorly alter the art to adhere to display rules.
Screenshot of the poster master file layout variations for indie documentary "What the Hell Happened" is on the left, compared to another screenshot on the right showing the movie poster thumbnail that ended up on streaming service FAwesome.com that is a heavily edited version I did not create. The art was "scrubbed" by someone to remove small text that wouldn't be visible — except they went too far and removed handwritten text from the spine labels on a stack of VHS tapes that is used to showcase the five subjects in the film; The spines don't need to be legible when the art is displayed at small sizes so much as fulfill the context of DIY home-recorded VHS tapes with handmade labels.

Agree Alex's suggestion on locking-down Spotlight indexing; Not all software assigns ".noindex" when they should. Any temp or rapidly updating directory (esp. with lots of small files) will just drain Spotlights resources — and in most cases those directories gain nothing from being indexed anyway.

Fresh OS installs are great, but time-consuming. Before going through that process, download a tool called Etrecheck and run it. Even in the free mode it may present information on background apps or startup processes that will help you "weed out" first. It's way nicer than scanning log files.

As if Windows XP SP3's changes were written around the needs of proprietary platemaking machine drivers or control software. In my old agency job we ran an old Retrospect OS9 Classic DLT backup system for decades after OS X fully took over. It always worked. Saved thousands on new licenses too.

I started drawing with 1-bit pixels on 8-bit home computers, but didn't get a handle on it until I owned a 16-bit B&W Macintosh in the eighties; Susan Kare's work was a breath of fresh air and has always been a major inspiration. Also still a huge fan of the Atkinson dither.
