From my experience designing movie posters, then sharing a comprehensive set of layouts for different uses: Someone else will upload a thumbnail to online service, ignore my specific variations and pick a wrong version — or poorly alter the art to adhere to display rules.
Screenshot of the poster master file layout variations for indie documentary "What the Hell Happened" is on the left, compared to another screenshot on the right showing the movie poster thumbnail that ended up on streaming service FAwesome.com that is a heavily edited version I did not create. The art was "scrubbed" by someone to remove small text that wouldn't be visible — except they went too far and removed handwritten text from the spine labels on a stack of VHS tapes that is used to showcase the five subjects in the film; The spines don't need to be legible when the art is displayed at small sizes so much as fulfill the context of DIY home-recorded VHS tapes with handmade labels.

@cabel.panic.com Idea for cheap @panic.com t-shirts: 1. Bulk buy Panasonic t-shirts for cheap 2. Remove middle letters from "Panasonic" 3. Remove "For" from the tagline. 4. PROFIT!!!!
Photo of a t-shirt with "Pa nic. for life" written on it. Obviously this used to be a "Panasonic Ideas for life" t-shirt but now it reads as "Panic for life".

Original photo found online, author unknown.

It has been a while! Years ago when that was changed there was understandably a lot of angry users and feedback — so Adobe put YA "legacy" setting in the General preferences.

Me too with Safari, inconsistently across sessions, though not since I updated to the last bug 26.5.2 (20624.2.5.18.7) fix yesterday — so maybe that helped? But even with video currently working the browser console is reporting significant errors for BSky. 🤔

Weird it was a new file; Maybe it is some kind of bug. There's all sorts of default baggage in fresh Illustrator files — including symbols relevant to the doc's profile. Maybe that's a factor. Still, I've not seen this with the latest version. Hope you aren't cursed. Watch out for sea hags!
Screenshot of Adobe Illustrator's Symbols palette with the "Art & Illustration" included symbols. There's a TextArea rounded box with a blue outline, a Button also with a blue outline and a light blue-to-white gradient fill, a ComboBox with a rounded square with a dropdown-style arrow, a TextInput field — again with an skinny rectangle with a blue outline and a white with blue outline drawing of a magnifying glass call Search.

WTF... these are all web site graphical elements; These have no place in a document intended for "Art & Illustration".

"Quality" is no longer consistently understood; Normal Photoshop composites or artwork is slandered as AI "slop" even when it isn't; Reportedly "vibe-coded" projects are very hard to edit-and-maintain once they're committed, and can become a huge expense to fix.
Screen capture of a post on X, taken from a Reddit post on r/vibcoding.

vibe coded for 6 months. my codebase is a disaster.

the app works. users are happy. revenue is coming in. ( that's actually the only good part)
but i just tried to onboard a dev to help me and he opened the repo and went quiet for like 2 minutes. then said "what is this."
6 months of cursor and lovable and bolt. every feature worked when i shipped it. but nobody was thinking about structure. the Al just kept adding. new file here, duplicate function there, 3 different ways to handle the same thing across the codebase.
tried to refactor it myself last week. gave up after 2 hours. the thing is so tangled that touching one part breaks something completely unrelated.
the generation was fast. the cleanup is a nightmare.
is there even a way out of this or do i just rewrite everything from scratch?

I prefer Japanese poster designs for movies, but had this gratuitously masculine Italian Escape From New York poster on my wall for many years.
Italian movie poster version for John Carpenter's Escape From New York featuring a low-angle perspective illustration of Kurt Russel as Snake Plisskin holding a machine gun at crotch level with significant foreshortening of the gun barrel, basically making this about as masculine as a poster can get without incurring X-rated subject matter. The background features helicopters in a NYC skyline, a photo of the ruined head of the Statue of Liberty laying on the ground, and shadows of people around it. In the middle right is Issac Hayes as The Duke of NY and some other man wearing a headband.

Part 4 in an unexpected series...
Mock-up of a paperback book titled "The worst damned coffee mug. I think it was washed in 1997. It has *film* on the inside of it that's near black. He is proud of it.", which includes the alt text on the original image of "the worst damned coffee mug". The author of the book is Dana Sibera. There is a sticker on the cover that says "100,000 Cups" Exclusive afterword by Craig. The cover artwork underneath the long title text includes a color-tinted close-up of the coffee cup original photo that inspired this mock-up.

The book is opened and face down on a white surface that has a coffee stain to the lower right of the book.

The back cover has quotes from social media, including the author of this mock-up saying "Better not be Craig's" and NanorRaptor's reply "It is Craig's!" which is what started this whole project and the alt text you're reading now.

Oh, and there's a tiny picture of Nanoraptor's bunny Vanilla Bean above another full color photo of the coffee mug in question, which has coffee-colored large type on it that says "Deeper & Darker Than Hell".

The site is nice and compact as it should be; Don't want to come off like "that guy" whining about 10k you didn't save, etc. I no longer use Netlify, but I bet it's mostly the way they meter "credits" for page views, etc. I'd assume they have some sort of breakdown of "credits" used somewhere.
Screen shot of the "Web Requests" info popup for Netlify hosting. "Web Requests" is described as "2 credits per 10k requests", which is further described as "web traffic requests to your site or app", e.g. page views, assets, and Edge functions.

Interesting; You've got two featured images on that article that add-up to a couple hundred kilobytes. Sure, one can always optimize more heavily (TinyPNG, webp, <picture> array, etc.), but as modern sites go you're not serving up the usual megabytes of bloat. Probably a Netlify traffic thing.

Satirical mock-up of a fake book cover and two pages from the same book. The title of the book is "Time to Back Up Craig", with a sticker saying "From the author of Stuff the F*cker & Pop One for Craig". There is a faded photo of an external storage drive with a old style serial cable attached. The cover features "Simple & Easy", "Includes USB Instructions", and "Minimal Nagging". The author is Dana Sibera.

Reminds me of the communication issues highlighted in the Chernobyl mini series that caused nuclear bomb-level environmental damage and death —  that is still ongoing in that region. It may not be your problem now, but at some point it could be the entire organization's problem in some other way.

It's often a bit of fussiness to coordinate social link icons in a consistent way, and that row is a great start. Of course these days still using the Twitter branding can be seen as either lacking to update to the revised brand — or a form of resistance ✊. Regardless, could be worse:
Screenshot of the official Britney Spears web site circa early 2000's. Notably the Google + social network icon is one of four large square cards that make up the left and right sides of the page — about 1000% larger than average. Other social media link elements are the usual small buttons in the navigation.

Years ago I made videos for a YouTube channel and when a Cameron pull quote came up in a script I couldn't help but design this mocked-up jab at the Avatar series:

Below the quote and photo are thumbnails of satirical Avatar movies: Avatar Underwater, Finding Avatar, Avatar Afterlife, Avatar (Again), Avatar Migration, Avatar Mosquito Planet, Avatar Into the Navi-verse, Avatar Microcosm, and Avatar vs Skynet.

I see this debated — but no *definitive* proof either way. It's not clear; E.g. some models are specifically labelled "safe for commercial use", which others aren't. I have clients that specifically require no generated AI because they need full ownership of what I make for them.
Screenshot of available models in Adobe's Creative Cloud Pro. The top four Firefly models are labelled "commercially safe", but partner models (Google, ChatGPT, Flux, Ideogram, Runway, etc.) are not.

Seems they're damned if they do, damned if they don't. Generated AI can't be copyrighted, but also some Disney characters recently entered the public domain — releasing a wave of low-budget horror films featuring slasher Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, etc. Probably chasing short-term profits.

HDR support is still a bit wild west; video games like Baldur's Gate 3 can't map HDR screen content to SDR when making a game save preview thumbnail. Cyberpunk 2077 extensively re-renders in HDR before saving in Photo mode, but the resulting PNG is a "flat" 8-bits per channel image.
Screen capture from Cyberpunk 2077 (MacOS build) showing Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves) sitting on a rooftop building ledger overlooking Night City. The image colors and contrast appear washed out because the original HDR dynamic range is stripped out when the image is save to disc.Screenshot showing how Baldur's Gate 3 can't generate HDR images from what's on screen when making previews for save games. The preview showing a bloody landscape after a battle in the wilderness appears very washed out/un-saturated, with the blood on the groud a pale red surrounding by bright beige dirt.

Since May 2024 I've been working off-and-on creating original animation, titles, graphic design and one special effect for this documentary; And now it's premiering at the 2025 Philadelphia Film Festival! #PFF34 #PhillyFilmFestival
Poster image for documentary feature What The Hell Happened directed by Matt Wilkins. The top tagline is "5 people. 33 Years" in a thick sans-serif typeface on a roughly cut scrap of brown paper. The title "What The Hell Happened" is below the tagline. In the background is a rural country two-lane road disappearing into-the-distance. There's a man's silhouette on the right-hand side of the road standing in an empty agricultural field. In the lower middle sitting on the road is a giant stack of five VHS tapes from the eighties, each with different collaged artwork and handwritten type: The first is labeled "Tim", the second "Eliza", the third "Anthony", the forth "Daniel", and the fifth "Doug". In the lower right there is another brown scrap of paper with text that reads "A documentary about life, love, and friendship".

Chicago being used to thoroughly was a big surprise to me because it's so specific to the Classic macOS UI. It made more sense in the Robocop 2 baddie's Finder-style UI homage than as a full-scale aesthetic in the Alien universe.

Screen capture of the upper half of the Trump Mobile web site on launch day. The site has a barely visible gold-on-white logo inthe upper left. The entire site is a minimal design with minimal branding. The masthead headline is "ALL-AMERICAN PERFORMANCE. EVERYDAY PRICE. $47.45/MONTH." for "The 47 Plan". There's a photo of a serious or angry looking man in a suite with the top shirt button unbuttoned using a cell phone. There are navigation links to "The 47 Plan" and "The T1™ Phone". No photos of the gold T1 phone appear above-the-fold.

@tukwilkins Any chance Eliza could corroborate this COBOL explanation regarding DOGE thinking fake 150 year olds are still getting social security?
A screenshot of two tweets on a white background. The first tweet is by Toshi [@]toshiHQ, with a profile picture of a person in a yellow hat and sunglasses. The tweet states, "It looks like Elon's genius coders don't know how COBOL works. Social security runs on COBOL, which does not use a date or time type. So the date is stored as a number using the ISO 8601 standard. The epoch for this is 150 years ago (1875) - aka the metre standard. So if you don't know the date of something, it will be a 0 value, which in COBOL will default to 1875 - 150 years ago." The second tweet is by Donald Trump Jr. [@]DonaldJTrumpJr, with a profile picture of Donald Trump Jr. The tweet, dated Feb 11, states, "OMG!!! It's so bad what's been happening to our country and your money! Breaking: Musk says there's people over 150-years-old collecting Social Security"
