Just read it. Bessent wrote Warren a letter
DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
WASHINGTON, D.C.
October 9, 2026
The Honorable Elizabeth Warren
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Warren:
Thave received your October 7 letter, which adds to the mounting body of evidence of your complete paucity of knowledge about financial markets. Rather than take my suggestion of studying introductory economics, you have continued your letter-writing crusade and participation in tabloid fodder about the Treasury Department.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to treat your concerns as sincere. As the federal funds rate climbed from near zero to its highest level in 22 years, with inflation hitting a 40-year high, you were a cheerleader for the Biden Administration's reckless spending. You blamed the economic consequences on the Federal Reserve, rather than your own irresponsible fiscal policies. Your view of the economy depends on who occupies the White House, but your woeful understanding of the issues is consistent.
The "interventions" you describe as "unprecedented" have been underway since May 2024. The buyback program has been well received by market participants in bolstering Treasury liquidity, which reduces market volatility, increases the convenience yield of Treasury securities and ensures the best value for the taxpayer. The continued enhancements optimize Treasury market liquidity in primary and secondary markets. The U.S. Treasury market's liquidity and performance versus global peers is evidence.
While you voted for a $5 trillion tax hike on everyday Americans, the Working Families Tax Cuts continue to deliver for families and workers across the country. The average refund this filing season was over $3,400, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year. More than 30 million workers claimed No Tax on Overtime, more than 7 million claimed No Tax on Tips, and more than 37 million seniors claimed their enhanced deduction. More than 34 million families claimed the permanently enhanced Child Tax Credit, and …These results are made possible by the employees of the Department of the Treasury, who are working around the clock for the American people. Unsurprisingly, you have responded by criticizing their dedication and aptitude for the job in a recent interview.' Despite your malign characterization, the Domestic Finance team you alluded to in your interview is fully staffed relative to historical levels. It is ironic that you have voted against every presidential appointee for a position at Treasury, no matter how impressive the qualifications for the role. Given your newfound interest in Department personnel, I challenge you to reverse course and thoughtfully engage with future nominees and support their confirmation.
Finally, my offer of a Foreign Exchange for Dummies tutorial still stands and if you receive a passing grade on the Yale metric, not the Harvard curve, I would be happy to also include a Fixed Income for Dummies.
Sincerely,
Aver Bout
Happy Indigenous Peoples'
Say in advance to you and your family.

Is he using tons instead of barrels, so it's harder for people to fact check how little this is? For example, if he said 2 million barrels, it would be obvious that it wasn't even very much, and this is a disgusting PR giveaway and betrayal of our allies for NOTHING? As if nobody can do the math?

Trump & Hegseth aren't just proposing to livestream an execution for willing viewers. Even if you support the death penalty, consider what happens next: Footage of a man being shot to death, pushed into our kids' feeds. It won't be contained. Hope the parents in the Trump Admin are cool with that

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

Chat is it good when an Ambassadorial nominee writes "Stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous ... if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control" to the man who paid her $300,000 to help resolve his tax issues with the IRS?
That same month, Guilfoyle sent a congratulatory note to Long after his confirmation as IRS commissioner. She attached a letter Deters had written outlining his tax dispute: “Don Jr. and I are very close with Eric Deters and his wife and I know he sent you a letter,” she wrote. “I am hoping I know how busy you are that you could give some time and attention to it.”

Two days later, Deters sent her a photo of a printed memo addressed to her: “I have paid you $300,000 over the years,” he wrote. “As of this memo, I have not received one favor. I am not naive or a sucker. I need results.”

In response, she told Deters to “stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous.”

“Just call me on signal,” she wrote.

As for Long, she would call him the next day, she assured Deters. “I wrote him a very nice message. Told him how important it was that you’re close to me and to don.”

“Also very privately,” she continued, “if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control.”

That afternoon she texted an update: Long had written her back.

“BOOM,” she added.

A week later, on July 3, she placed two missed calls to Deters’ phone, and sent him instructions on how to wire money to an American Express account.

“Your needing $100,000 urgent unfortunately is not going to work,” he wrote. “I can’t do this without getting a divorce.”

“I’ve been calling you for over a week straight,” she replied. “You could be here meeting with Billy Long.”

Long is now the U.S. ambassador to Iceland. Embassy officials there referred reporters to a State Department media office that didn’t respond to a request for comment.
