This is absolutely insane, I just rendered this effectively 3.1 billion triangles 900 frame 16 sample per pixel 960x540 animation in #RStats last night in 6 hours using the M1 GPU and #rayrender -- it would have taken a WEEK with the CPU renderer. Completely game changing for iterative work

CRAN Package Updates Bot @cranberriesfeed.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
New CRAN package catchmentACS with initial version 0.6.0 #rstats cran.r-project.org/package=catchmen…
cran.r-project.org
CRAN: Package catchmentACS
Computes American Community Survey (ACS) estimates for the area within a given drive time of each of a set of points, such as the locations of pre-kindergarten classrooms. Such an area is called an isochrone. The drive-time areas come from a routing service, either the 'Open Source Routing Machine' ('OSRM', &lt;<a href="https://project-osrm.org/" target="_top">https://project-osrm.org/</a>&gt;) or 'openrouteservice' (&lt;<a href="https://openrouteservice.org/" target="_top">https://openrouteservice.org/</a>&gt;), and the ACS 5-year estimates of census tracts come from the Census Bureau (&lt;<a href="https://www.census.gov/data/developers.html" target="_top">https://www.census.gov/data/developers.html</a>&gt;) through the 'tidycensus' package, one state at a time. The tracts that overlap an area are combined by area weighting, which uses two weights: the share of each tract's area that lies inside, for counts and rates, and each tract's share of the overlapping area, for the medians and per-person values of three ACS tables (median household income, median home value, and per capita income). A median or per-person value from any other table is added up like a count. Counts, medians, per-person values, and five rates are returned with a margin of error at a chosen confidence level, 90 percent by default, and with a record of the settings, inputs, and package versions behind the run. The five rates are the poverty rate, the shares of households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and Supplemental Security Income, the unemployment rate, and the labor force participation rate. The margins of error of counts and rates use the approximation formulas in chapter 8 of U.S. Census Bureau (2020) "Understanding and Using American Community Survey Data: What All Data Users Need to Know" &lt;<a href="https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/library/handbooks/general.html" target="_top">https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/library/handbooks/general.html</a>&gt;. For a count the formula for a sum is applied to the weighted tract estimates, with the weights treated as fixed. For a rate the default is the formula for a ratio. Its margin of error is at least as wide as that of the formula for a proportion, which the handbook gives for ratios whose numerator is part of the denominator, as it is in all five rates. The margins of error of medians and per-person values are an approximation made by the package.

webRoid 1.1.1 is on Google Play. The app that runs R on your Android phone or tablet moves up to R 4.6.0, and its charts are now the kind you’re allowed to poke. App: play.google.com/store/apps/d... Docs: webroid.caffeinatedmath.com #rstats #webr #android #webassembly
Promotional card for webRoid on a dark navy background, headed "Make interactive charts", with the line "Open a plotly chart from your Workspace, then zoom and pan it with your fingers." A tilted tablet in dark mode shows a plotly scatter plot titled Weight vs mileage, its points colored pink, green and blue for cars with 4, 6 and 8 cylinders.

I've never understood the hype around air fryers. My understanding is that they're small convection ovens which I assume are pretty standard nowadays (since I've had one for many years).

Recency bias — Mendoza was on a heater in the CFP so that's IU fans last memory of qb play ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It's not a question of if but of when Hoover will start clicking. It's also because a lot of the missed PAs look like TDs. On the flip side, that means when Hoover does connect... Watch Out!

Finally got around to reading this. I wonder if there are coaches (Cignetti?) that sustain above-average luck metrics kind of like there are some MLB players that have higher career BABIP numbers.

They're more talented than last season and the Cignetti quarterback camp doesn't miss (and that's including transfer qbs before Rourke). 11-1 is probably the mostly likely outcome, but I'm leaning towards another 12-0.

Choosing Ferrell as a tackling leader is pretty bad. Dude wasn't even top 5 on the team last season and had the highest missed tackle rate on the team. Plus I don't think his position (free safety) gets as many opportunities. Choosing Chiddi over Tobi is kind of unusual given Tobi is the specialist.

Checking on an R package usually takes five open tabs: CRAN, GitHub, download counts, reverse deps, check results. R Observatory collects all of that on one page, for every CRAN and Bioconductor package. r-observatory.thecoatlessprofessor.com #rstats
The ggplot2 package page on R Observatory. A header gives the name, version 4.0.3, and tagline, with four headline numbers: 6,665 packages depend on it, 26.4M downloads a year, 81.1% test coverage, and 13 of 13 CRAN checks passing. Sections below cover an Overview (maintainer, first-published date, description), install commands in tabs (CRAN, pak, Ubuntu r2u, Fedora COPR, openSUSE OBS), Health (CRAN check result, code-health facts, and a dated check history), and the start of Downloads. A Vital Signs sidebar summarizes health, coverage, docs, downloads, reverse dependencies (6,665 direct and 1,909 indirect), release, license, and links to reference docs.

The Ryan Day stuff is surprising. I've never seen any coaches rankings have him so low. Maybe I missed something, but the main argument against him is that he's simply a caretaker of a top program?
