Bought at a discount. Hope it's worth it! I guess I should play the Generations part first.

No doubt this has occurred to other bystanders as well, but it would seem that a handful of billionaires dropping $150 million into a single state's election in an attempt to defeat a wealth-tax initiative just about makes the entire case for a wealth-tax initiative.

For the love of Kirby please do not listen to anyone who says you should be doing two finished pages of comic book art a day. It is a recipe for burnout, misery, and eventually, the destruction of your career. Industry standard is one a day, five a week. Period. Got it?

One thing that I keep thinking about with policing overall, and this is a particularly egregious version of it, is that cops generally don’t have any sense of risk modulation. Either they act like there’s no risk or that there’s extreme risk and that assessment can change in a split second.

Surveillance pricing is a dowbrught evil form of predation, but it’s a choice that governments can stop. This is an easily bannable practice. And it can be legislated out of existence.

You don't hear about those, because they don't go mad during the transformation - which occurs because of the caloric deficit caused by adding on all of that body mass. When you get smaller, you wind up with energy surplus - so you can quietly just do dog stuff until the full moon passes.

There's so much good stuff we need to build: Housing, Schools, Vehicles and Transit Infrastructure. But data centers are sucking up all the available capital investment and crowding out everything else. It's time to reevaluate our national priorities.

I see a lot of this as men trying to outsource to technology the kind of lovingly nagging labor (think: "drink more water, honey" "don't forget to take your pills, honey" "I scheduled you a doctor's appointment, honey") that has traditionally fallen to wives.

i'm interested how the tech hype spiral progresses from feasible but too-soon promises, to unfeasible sci-fi nonsense, to 'you know what, fuck it, we're gonna cause a doomsday event and kill everyone' like that last step seems counterproductive, but maybe it's the only way to keep turning the dial

I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'
Andrew Curran: Axios is reporting that the top labs are wargaming scenarios for the aftermath of a catastrophic event in the next 6 - 12 months, that some executives now see as being inevitable.

Axios: Top executives at Anthropic, OpenAl and other Al companies are privately gaming out scenarios for a public and political revolt after a catastrophic AI event.
Why it matters: These officials anticipate a large-scale event, most likely a cyberattack, that shuts down access to financial services, internet connectivity, or even power and water.

Edouard Harris: This is our view as well. Relatedly, average people will want to increase their level of personal resilience and preparedness as their resources allow. We will be publishing about this soon.

Nick Farina: Best ways to be prepared? Generators, water, books and DVDs?

Edouard Harris: Power, water, food, sanitation for most part. Parts of this depend on your geo latitude - solar vs propane for eg.

But also: set aside a computer that is not (and ideally has never been) connected to the internet. Buy faraday pouches and tape. Print out essential docs on paper.

What Cage has done for literally the past decade is exactly this, he finds a weird eccentric script by a first time filmmaker, signs on, his name brings in clout, he makes the film, and sometimes it's not very good. But it's still artistic as hell. This is why I *love* Cage.

"Hurt people hurt people" is an explanation for harm, not an excuse for harm as we often use it as. Even if you are the victim of abuse, that does not excuse you doing abuse in return. Shit like that is what ideologies like Zionism are built on. We only break abuse cycles through accountability.

Fascists can’t stand being ridiculed. The same is also true of antivax leaders like Andrew Wakefield, because it punctures their pretensions of being real scientists.

(Also, fascists tend to spend huge amounts of time obsessing over their public image so poking them with the slightest bit of goofiness, eg couch fornication, will often cause them to crash out and spend weeks trying to fix _that_ instead of doing new evils. Which is also fun to watch.)

The fascists being made fun of will not change their behavior, but to communities, knowing there are other people out there who hate Thiel or Musk or Trump's guts is _hugely_ important. It gives them permission to show their own contempt, and it swells from there.

So, the reason we mock horrible fascists is not to make fascists change their minds. It is to show they are mockable. It breaks the veneer of respectability and power. It gives others social permission to mock them. Satire is poisonous to power because it makes opposition both fun and collaborative.

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

Under a corrupt or authoritarian leader, wealth concentration incentivises the crazy-rich, with widespread business interests, to make loss-making media acquisition. By currying political favor, they gain rents - whether with enthusiasm (Musk) or more reluctance (Bezos). Here's the economic model.

Meta’s A.I. leaders also incorporated OpenClaw into their own lives. Mr. Friedman hooked his agent up to cameras in his house, where it would instruct him to do things like drink water to stay hydrated.
“It sent me a snapshot frame of me drinking a bottle of water and said, ‘Good job,’” Mr. Friedman said at a recent tech conference.
In another instance, while talking to his agent about ways to get better sleep, OpenClaw took over Mr. Friedman’s self-driving Tesla and redirected him to a grocery store to pick up magnesium pills. At Meta’s annual developer conference last month, Mr. Zuckerberg said he had connected his agent to cameras in his martial arts gym so that it could critique his fighting form.
Yet there were safety concerns. Agents could sometimes go rogue or take over software apps. In February, one agent took over the work computer of a Meta safety researcher, deleting her emails uncontrollably.
“I couldn’t stop it from my phone,” Summer Yue, the researcher, wrote on social media. “I had to RUN to my Mac mini like I was defusing a bomb.”

NYPD keeps insisting it’s not working with ICE in the narrowest scope of not literally participating in kidnappings but then goes silent when people present evidence of ICE using their precincts/parking lots, of NYPD doing crowd control. Big difference in technical and de facto assistance.
