stumbled upon a pet peeve in the comments… too few people willing to acknowledge that the difference between “okay“ and “pretty good” might be how hydrated you are at any given moment

I have a “water set“ from the 1950s and the glasses are basically shot glasses. It’s purely decorative, because like you I am resentful of the ridiculously minuscule volume of water

"I have tweets older than you" would be a devastating burn to some impudent youth but also simultaneously to yourself of course

the cafe where I am working is playing ‘Ticket to Ride’ and it’s reminded me that when I was a kid I thought it said “ticket to Rye”, where my grandparents had a holiday house and I remember thinking, “fair enough”

more than one news outlet reported on this trend, linked in part to a predisposition among women but also with a suspected connection to increased stress, which is what my doctor ascribed it to www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

‘It was like something was crawling over me’ – the worrying rise of shingles among millennial women
Stress, the cost of living, long working hours and even excessive exercise have all been touted as reasons the illness is rising among women in their 30s and 40s. What can be done to help them?

this could be the motivation for many but as some one who had shingles last year well ahead of the supposed risk window, I can say I’d also prefer just to never have shingles again www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

‘I want to do everything I can to head off dementia’: why demand for the shingles vaccine is soaring
Could a drug intended to prevent painful rashes also protect our brains as we get older? The signs are promising – but not conclusive. Yet that’s enough to be driving a boom in shingles jabs

The fact that Gary Numan hasn't achieved full 'national treasure' status is something that needs to be corrected. A musical pioneer, still going strong and never did a cunty thing in his life. An all round good egg.

wanted to use up some oranges so I’ve simmered them in some sugar syrup and popped them in the dehydrator. The syrup becomes a little cordial with soda and ice… perfect!

growing up in regional Aus where my dad was the only Asian face for miles, and where a large proportion of the community had never spent time with folks from a non-European background, we lived both sides of “you’re one of the good ones” and “you’re a [slur]” depending on the moment and company

I also see this in the apologising that gets done for supporting the overtly racist policies of ON. Yes, Dave might be a great guy when you run into him down the shops but you preferring him not to be racist doesn’t mean he isn’t

If you have ever read a book to a baby, you will realize it's not a linear experience. The baby wants to turn pages backward, wants to ask questions (if they're old enough), wants to examine the pages and get really excited if they can say "bear!" even if the word "bear!" is not on the page.

A lot of victims don’t have the language for what happened to them right away because our culture teaches all of us that men are allowed to mistreat women.

I re read my draft manuscript yesterday and have a few observations: 1. it’s better than I remember: 2. it has too many characters; 3. part of what has diminished my writing practice is lack of time in the world.
