Marilyn Waring was the first women to knit on the floor of the house of Parliament. It required an Act of Parliament. Waring made 32 garments in her 8.5 years of Parliament. For Waring “knitting was a political act and she caused a great deal of comment” (Heather Nicholson, The loving stitch, 262).
