Repealing DRIPA could not be the destination, it would have to be the first step, Adam Olsen writes. “Conservatives have been so distracted by culture wars and ‘purity tests’ in their race-to-the-bottom brand of politics that they have no idea what the second step is.” thetyee.ca/Opinion/2026...

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

While we are all up a tree waving Canadian pride about Anne Carson are we going to address how little coverage the media in Canada ever gives to bold, inventive, poetic work? Because the elephant is galloping freely through the pastures getting off very lightly & it's pissing me off.

I just got phoned by a political survey with questions about the provincial election. All the questions were about how I viewed the leaders -- Eby or Doerksen. But we don't vote for the leaders, we vote for local candidates. What if I like the leader and don't like my local candidate?

Seriously considering voting Green for the first time in my life. I hate the Right wing parties, so I guess the NDP should win, but our local candidate Grace Lore has been so personally insulting to the VILHS that I can’t vote for her.

Sad to learn that Carl Berger passed away last week. He taught half of the Canadian history survey that I took at the University of Toronto. His book The Sense of Power played a major role in shaping my understanding of Canada's relationship to imperialism in the late-19th and early-20th centuries.
