Getting a US work visa was one of the most difficult hurdles for my pro wrestling journey. I’ve been scratching my head for years on how I could help others with theirs The solution was surprisingly to build a very popular Canadian based wrestling promotion and throw A LOT of money at the problem.

Only around 40% of rush hour traffic at Bloor and Shaw in Toronto is made up of cars. Before the bike lanes on Bloor, over 80% of traffic was cars. Now more commuters pass through the intersection, although raw number of cars has decreased. If you build it, they will come.

We also looked at some FSA primary sources and this one really grabbed students' attention. It's a diagram that shows the arrangement of members of the Boston Anti-Man-Hunting League as they would surround a man-hunter, concealing him until he consented to release the person he was trying to kidnap
This diagram, explained by a note written by Henry I. Bowditch, shows the arrangement of members of the Boston Anti-Man-Hunting League as they would surround a man-hunter, concealing him until he consented to release the person he was attempting to kidnap. The League was a secret society founded in Boston in 1854 to resist the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. The diagram, in pencil and watercolor on brown paper, places the slave hunter in the center (SH), surrounded by the speaker of the committee (S), a member to take hold of the hunter's head (C), two members to take hold of the arms (A1 and A2) and two for the feet (F1 and F2), and twelve additional members to form an outer circle to ward off intruders while the committee conveyed the victim to safety. Bowditch's note continues, "One plagued in this way would not invite others to come & run the same risk of annoyance."

macklemore gets a lot of flack for being corny because for awhile being corny used to be the worst thing an artist could be. but what ed sheeran did is the worst kind of artist today, one who doesn’t stand for anything except the belief that he has values. this is the new era of sellout

my actual attitude about AI right now is that it's really useful for software dev but we have to find practices that mitigate the intellectual and material / environmental harms before we uncritically adopt it, and that means engaging with critique

1/6 A/I may be ending. The story is nowhere near over. For twenty-five years, #AutisticiInventati showed what it could mean for movements to build and control their own communications infrastructure. Its loss should not send everyone searching for the next single service to replace it.
Alt text: Poster-style graphic on a black background reading, “A/I IS ENDING. SO WHAT DO WE BUILD NOW?” in large cream and red block letters. In the center is a screenshot-like view of the Boise Autonomous Solidarity Hub, or BASH, showing its colorful pixel-art logo and simple text-based NomadNet site. Along the left are the phrases “Publish local,” “Mirror everything,” “Learn the tools,” “Support independent media,” and “Build together.” Text on the right says one collective can be shut down, but a thousand projects cannot, and calls for people to control their own communications. Mountain, forest, radio-tower, and DIY zine-style illustrations frame the page. Across the bottom, large text reads, “WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER A/I. WE NEED A THOUSAND SERVERS,” followed by a note that Sabot is building a living guide to autonomous media and infrastructure, especially for small and rural projects.

For me, the reply count labeler has been far more useful than any of the pro/anti AI labelers. Too many on the anti/pro side don't understand the tech at all/only understand the tech, and neither side has done enough of the philosophy readings. Whereas "this person posts a lot" is... illuminating.

we have so many fucking problems in Toronto and it's criminal how much time is spent worrying about bike lanes, a thing that everyone can agree isn't the problem. It's honestly distressing to see so many wildly corrupt people in power able to do whatever they want without consequence.

The death of Ratko Mladić means nothing to me. He won. The West rewarded the genocide and handed almost half of Bosnia's territory to his political project. As long as the genocidal entity exists, no justice is possible. The monument to his crimes outlives him.

IMO, software devs have long had a cultural undercurrent of self-perception as *artisans* doing highly-detailed small batch or bespoke work, which is both wrong as a matter of primary economic context and sets up the adherents for a bad mismatch with AI's utility for software engineering.
