If you live on portions of the northern Gulf coast highlighted here, winds are forecast to be high enough to make further preparations for Isaias impossible by Friday. Do you have an evacuation plan? Is your home ready? Prepare now. www.weather.gov/safety/hurri...
National Hurricane Center map showing the earliest reasonable arrival times of tropical-storm-force winds from Tropical Storm Isaias, as of October 7, 2026. Tropical-storm-force winds could reach the southern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday evening, spread northeast across the central Gulf Thursday, and reach portions of the northern Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle as early as Friday morning. Areas farther inland across Mississippi and Alabama could experience these winds by Friday evening. Colors indicate the probability of sustained winds of at least 39 mph, with the highest probabilities concentrated along the storm's projected path.

I’m on a flight next to a guy who is listening to Seinfeld with no headphones and all I hear is the laughtrack and the worst bass noises of all time every 15 seconds and all I can think about is this.
Pftompkins.bsky.social: The music of Seinfeld, divorced from the show itself, is nothing short of disgusting. Imagine if the show didn’t exist but the music somehow did. Hearing it, your face would twist in angry revulsion

There is a reason that AI is so attractive to fascists. It allows its users (adherents might be a better word) to hand over their decision-making, their thinking, their autonomy, to something they can convince themselves is bigger, stronger, and smarter than them.

I hope everyone sees this for what it is. They make it illegal to be anarchist. Despite the First Amendment. They don’t criminalize being a Democrat or a “Democratic Socialist” because those things aren’t real threats to their power. Y’all “go high.” It does nothing. We exist and they imprison us.

Butterbutt. An older comic.
A four-panel comic titled "yellow-rumped warbler poem". In panel 1, a yellow-rumped warbler stands on a branch in a late autumn scene, and says "Fall is here." In panel 2, the warbler watches a brown leaf fall to the ground, and says "Winter's near." In panel 3, the warbler faces the viewer as brown leaves fall, and says "Need some cheer?" In panel 4, the warbler is showing its luminous yellow rump, and cheerfully says "See my rear."

The person who needs to be intentionally restored to the community in the aftermath of intimate violence is the victim of that violence. To do that often requires attacking the perpetrators’ power/access to victims. Asking “but how can we fix their heart?” as a bystander is deeply inappropriate.

Kwame Ture: We have to criticize [liberals] because they represent the liaison between both groups, between the oppressed and the oppressor. The liberal tries to become an arbitrator, but he is incapable of solving the problems. He promises the oppressor that he can keep the oppressed under control; that he will stop them from becoming illegal (in this case illegal means violent). At the same time, he promises the oppressed that he will be able to alleviate their suffering — in due time.

This is exactly how I talk about it too! I've seen Gen AI try to write good comms and it's always completely terrible (see - most of LinkedIn, a bunch of the newer FB 'nz politics influencer' types.
Screenshot of a tumblr post reading: recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

I'm gonna have to say it's a both/and on the fandom toxicity. At 52, I've never been entirely welcome in one. My needs run to counter to the biggest trends for either cis men or cis women. But it's even tougher now to tread in and find anything of value. Interp is shallower. Puritanism broader.
