i live in Minneapolis because I like being around people of all types, from around the world; because I believe in true universal public education for all; because of transportation options beyond one car per person per trip. does anyone in power understand this?

Minneapolis Public Schools is considering closing 15–16 schools, including Pratt. Our students, families, and educators deserve community investment, not rushed closures that tear apart our neighborhoods. Pratt Elementary is a beloved neighborhood institution. Now, its future is at risk.

All of this car sharing success being shut down because the Twin Cities can't come up with an operating subsidy? This was once my life's work, and it was the most successful operation in the country. What are we doing? Where is the vision? Who is the hero?

Car-sharing service is shutting down operations in the Twin Cities
Hourcar service had been around for 21 years, but the nonprofit said it could not close a $625,000 funding gap.

You could argue that homelessness and crime are bigger structural issues beyond what a mayor could control. But we're talking basic city services! This is a mandate for someone (anyone?) to dramatically change the way we plan, build, and maintain our city. And address a lot of other issues as well!

It's kind of amazing how the driverless taxi debate can turn the city council's biggest hater of public transit (Pearll Warren) into someone who says of people without driver's licenses: "they still have to get around and go to places... it's choice, it's autonomy..."

US isn’t taking climate change seriously when it comes to transport policy Other countries are demonstrating that they can (1) mode shift toward transit, walk, bike; (2) electrify; (3) densify. US failing on all fronts. Result is that US emissions from transport aren’t falling as they should

Minneapolis is one of the most liberal places in the U.S., home to a specific brand of inclusive and effective progressivism. Minnesota is the birthplace of charter schools and anti-labor corporatists have convinced many Mpls liberals/progressives that public schools are bad. Both things are true!

There's a *social* hierarchy that places "person who does computer in office" much much higher than "person who gets food out of the ground." This social hierarchy makes it hard to imagine that AI can replace the first and easy to imagine that it can replace the second. That's probably backwards.
