This is @edwardsung.bsky.social wife. My beloved husband passed from this world unexpectedly one week ago. I’m posting because I know he made connections with some folks here and I don’t want him disappeared.

I understand the urge to crap on undemanding, light entertainment, but when you’re feeling like shit, a low-key, cozy comedy that isn’t mentally taxing but is made with care and heart by talented people can be an absolute blessing.

Netflix's Man on the Inside Season 2 is better than Season 1 in every way... MUCH funnier, great additions to the cast (Jason Mantzoukas!!), and if you want to watch Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen adorably romance each other -- and of course you do -- do not miss it.

thing about autism is if you work really hard for many years, you can learn through trial-and-error how to navigate social situations and interpersonal connections SO effectively that people don't really believe you're autistic anymore and resent you for not being perfect at nonverbal communication

Thinking about Pluribus as a story about grief (present & past—there are signs all over these episodes of some bad past stuff) unlocked some thoughts about loss and depression. Rambling follows. (Disclaimer: Grief is a highly personal experience and I speak only for myself.)

When you were sexualized by adult males as an adolescent you do what you have to as an adult to reconcile your experience, including doing a shit ton of rationalizing. I’m not excusing media folks who are doing this in public, just noting it. We do what we must to protect our sanity. It’s imperative

I revisited Robert Lawson's Rabbit Hill, which I loved as a child, and jeez, this goes a lot harder than I remembered
"They're a-buildin' a dungeon," he shouted. "They're a-buildin' a dungeon fer Little Georgie, that's what they’re a-doin'. And they'll put him into it behind big iron bars and he'll be a-pinin' there and every time any one of us touches a dingblasted vegetable they'll a-torture him and jab him and starve him - and maybe pour boilin' oil onto him!”

I read Slaughterhouse-Five right after Breakfast of Champions, and holy shit. I’m still in awe of his ability to express incandescent rage and pain in such a calm tone. If I tried to write the things he wrote about. I’d be rendered completely inarticulate.

Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions. For a number of reasons, but especially that famous asshole. I was 14 and had no idea you were even ALLOWED to put crazy drawings like that in a “serious” book. He was just like, here’s an asshole. Blew my entire mind!

My least memorable movie is a 70s flick called Love For Sale. My parents took me along to see it at a drive-in, and I got bored and watched the other screen, which is how I saw Suspiria at 8 yrs old. Years later I tried to look up Love For Sale, but there’s no record of it ever existing.

Gene Wolfe’s The Book of the New Sun. Dense, propulsive, depicts a world that is both fantastic and grounded in rich character. But realizing the character who describes himself as having a perfect memory is actually an unreliable narrator was a moment I’ve rarely had as a reader.

In September, I almost shared this piece to take a jab at the author of Bond novels who clearly has never seen the Bond films. 😅 But it is obvious to me that the “source” of this article (on a website I am not familiar with) is false or misleading. What is being reported is absolutely ridiculous.
A source close to the production claimed: "Writers are tearing their hair out. Bond didn't just vanish off a cliff or fake his death – he was blown to pieces on screen. Everyone agrees it was a massive mistake because Bond is supposed to be eternal. They are now stuck trying to find a believable way to resurrect him, and it is proving almost impossible."

lol this is ridiculous. Either they've never seen Bond, or they've never read fiction.Another source involved in early discussions said: "The headache is not just about the script. Until they decide how to deal with Bond's death, they can't cast the new actor. It affects everything, from the tone of the story to the timeline they choose. Right now, nobody has the answer."

I don't understand how anyone could take this stupid comment seriously.

I've been seeing this headline floating around. To be clear: 1) This is "No. 1" on a miniscule chart, The "Country Digital Song Sales" chart, as in people actually paying money to download country songs which is a tiny amount of people 2) The actual consumers are almost certainly fake

I almost never have dreams “ripped from the headlines” but last night I dreamt Joyce Carol Oates threw a dinner party and Elon Musk showed up uninvited. Everyone left and moved the party elsewhere (via video game fast travel) but Elon kept following them.

With I, Claudius you need to get over "the sets are cheap, I can see it's a wig, the age makeups a little rough, it was shot on a ViewFinder" etc early. Otherwise you sound like someone attending a Broadway show spending the whole time complaining you know it's not real bc you can see the curtains.

The filmmakers will be secluded in an Amazon fulfillment center and vote by secret ballot. Black smoke will be released to signal an inconclusive vote. When a new Bond is elected, white smoke will be released. Villeneuve will appear and announce “Habemus James.”

One reason I love Vince Gilligan shows is that he sets them in Albuquerque, so it's fun to spot filming locations I recognize. This scene at "Silver Jack's Saloon" was shot right near me! It's Vernon's Speakeasy in Los Ranchos. Never been there but across the way is a cool little toy store.

Tucked away in the #Pluribus credits, it reads,
"This show was made by humans."
"I hate Al,"
creator Vince Gilligan told Variety
with a chuckle. "Al is the world's most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine. I think there's a very high possibility that this is all a bunch of horseshit. It's basically a bunch of centibillionaires whose greatest life goal is to become the world's first trillionaires. I think they're selling a bag of vapor."
