I'm looking for furniture for my office but it seems that "vintage" these days ONLY means mid century modern. No, I don't want a sleek G Plan sideboard! Where my fussy gothic Victorian cabinets at?!

Can we talk about the fact that Joe Lycett has gone from championing Birmingham - insisting his Friday night show must be made here, and offering paid apprenticeships to local people - to just... Making it in London and not mentioning Birmingham at all? What happened?

Sometimes when a post gets a very "Bluesky" response - as this one rightly has - I go to Twitter and Facebook to see what people outside of my bubble think. But I'll never know, because this seems to be the only channel where the Mayor's account doesn't limit replies. 🤔

I presume this plane is filming for the athletics (and probably not going to Antwerp), but how much will it really see from 28,000 feet?

I think I need to stop reading about other people. The stupidity is relentless. Under stories about people losing their homes in fires, there are multiple people arguing that "it was a disposable barbecue - nothing to do with so-called climate change!"

Obvs I'm biased but blimey. The gov's emergency alert team needs a copywriter. Way too much text! Break it up! You need a 1-2 word headline (Wildfires!), then an obvious call to action ("do not use..."). THEN you can go into the whole "even a small flame" thing.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.
A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.

I would kill or die for Larry
A small operation in Oregon that hunts truffles with a trained dog has added an unpaid trainee. A cat named Larry accompanies the handler and the truffle dog into the woods every outing, works a patch of ground a little apart from them, and digs with tremendous confidence in places where there is nothing.
The handler says Larry has never found a truffle and shows no sign of understanding the assignment. He does not use scent the way the dog does and he does not respond when the dog makes a find.
He simply digs his own holes nearby and then inspects them. "He thinks he's on the team," the handler said. "He is emphatically not on the team."

In the yacht club earlier. Ave. age ~80. Couple on the next table taking an age to order. Eventually she asks for salad and he says "I'll try the liver". Do you mean the paté, Geoff? I'm sorry, we're out. "I'll have the trifle then." The... trifle? Both nod. As a main? Again, affirmative.

Niece's primary school will only share school trip group photos via X. The teachers are "not allowed" to use WhatsApp, so there isn't a closed parents' group. Niece doesn't want to be the only one left out of photos (and her parents want to see her!) so X it is. Feels skeevy to me but not my call.
