I kind of feel like games don't really need to go for more photorealistic graphics than something like what we're seeing with Remedy's Northlight or Guerrilla's Decima engines. Ran a little of Control Resonant earlier this evening to see how my gradually aging PC handles it, and it looks gorgeous.

This was tough to narrow down. More than nine games made me, and one or two of these might not even be my favorites of their particular franchises. But these are nine *of* the games that have shaped who I am today.

A grid of "My 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am."

-Brave Fencer Musashi (PS1, SquareSoft, 1998)
-The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PC, Falcom, 2004)
-NieR Automata (PS4, PlatinumGames, 2017)
-Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire (PC, Obsidian Entertainment, 2018)
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2, Konami Digital Entertainment Japan/Hideo Kojima, 2001)
-Dark Souls (PS3, FromSoftware, 2011)
-Mega Man 3 (NES, Capcom, 1990)
-Disco Elysium (PC, ZA/UM, 2019)
-Guild Wars 2 (PC, ArenaNet, 2012)

Kyle and I were talking a bit about this panel recently, and I'm equally crestfallen about Garriott's enthusiasm over the Aggregated Slop Dispenser™. Like, dude, you're a millionaire. You can fund a AA project yourself. You don't need Chat GPT for any of this. Come on, man.

Been getting into Atelier Ryza while waiting for the release of Sky SC Remake, and this is a really charming game. Loving how much of your progress is set behind getting into and learning the alchemy system. Was initially unsure how I felt about the combat, but it's growing on me more with time.

Early thoughts on Tokyo Xanadu after finishing Chapter 2... -Love the music, feels very classic. Main theme actually reminds me of Mega Man 8's OST, oddly. -Characters are likeable so far. -Episodic format is nice; Side Stories are a great way to showcase party members. -Camera is a little janky.

I had no clue that they were working on patching the localization for the Sky FC Remake, but it's certainly a welcome surprise. Glad to see the old names back, and to hear they're also going to be fixed in the remake of SC. trailsfirstchapter.com/update/

Hey everyone.

Last night, to my great surprise, I received a long email from Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch. He apologized unreservedly for the awful way he spoke about me in the press. The email’s full text will stay between us; I’m not that kind of girl. But I have confirmed it was from him.

Matt said he regretted escalating, and how people online were speaking about me. I’m not worried about being called slurs by random commenters—I’m a trans woman, that’s every day for me—but it stunk to have my skill and reputation built of 20 years in games publicly maligned by someone with institutional power.

One thing I saw people saying about me, and that Matt fueled the flames of too, was that this is not my first time calling a former employer out, so I must love drama or be hard to work with. The truth is, bad treatment is everywhere in games; I’m just more willing than others to call it out. And I call it out so maybe others will be willing, too, when it happens to them.

I’ve been firm from the beginning that I was telling the truth; I think we can all now agree that’s been borne out. Matt expressed a desire to make it right with me; at this time I don’t really know what that looks like for me, and I’ll have to take some time to sit with it, but I do at least accept his apology.

None of this changes my stance on AI. Matt and I obviously differ on this, and as a CEO the consequences of its use fall on him, and unfortunately also on his employees.

Apologies are simply in too short a supply these days to spurn one when it’s offered.

God willing, this is the last statement I’ll need to make about this.

xo

It feels great getting back into Granblue Fantasy Relink, but boy do I have a lot of grind ahead of me. Still can't quite clear Bahamut on Proud, but I'm getting a better idea of how the fight goes. This game is such a good action RPG. Really hoping they continue either with more DLC or a sequel.

As someone who grew up as a lifelong Playstation gamer, this is one of the worst decisions that Sony has ever made within the gaming space. Physical media is essential for preservation, and this will result in so much being lost to history 20 years down the line. Guess I'm done buying Playstation.

Pool opened up at our complex for the summer, and so the rules got sent out to us in an email. I realize that this is likely an error caused by whatever they used for dictation, but I think it's way funnier to believe that the management company decided to establish thoughtcrime.

Screencap of an email received featuring pool rules.

Of note is a line in the center of the image which reads: "No thinking within the pool gates."

Destiny as an IP has been a victim of mismanagement for so many years by Bungie's exec suite. My heart goes out to the developers on the ground who made cool things, and fought against bad leadership to bring players other cool things that never made it into the game. You shot for the stars.
