Got told earlier this week that I didn't understand Return to Silent Hill because I thought it had terrible writing and director Christophe Gans didn't understand the characters of the original game. Always remember that everything has at least one ardent defender out there, folks. Everything.

I know we CAN get higher fidelity out of things and that there'll always be studios trying to chase that next visual pinnacle, but it feels like we've long reached a point where we're having to pay so much for incremental hops in fidelity. Would rather see studios chasing great art direction.

I kind of feel like games don't really need to go for more photorealistic graphics than something like what we're seeing with Remedy's Northlight or Guerrilla's Decima engines. Ran a little of Control Resonant earlier this evening to see how my gradually aging PC handles it, and it looks gorgeous.

I gotta believe that there are franchise devotees out there who would love to have something like this, and there's just no real way for fans to get hold of it when it's restricted to influencers as a marketing & promotional tool over being a piece of merch for ultrafans to buy if they want it.

As a certified old man, I'm also obligated to say anyone who makes a blanket statement that games are "just worse now than they used to be" isn't looking hard enough to find the games that they like. There are still so many great games out there; the industry has problems, but games are still great.

Alternative opinion: If a project costs so much that one needs to replace human artistry and expertise with the Steal Everything Machine, maybe one should consider scaling down your project to something one can better manage? The state of the economy/industry make this a bad time for bloated games.

Been getting into Atelier Ryza while waiting for the release of Sky SC Remake, and this is a really charming game. Loving how much of your progress is set behind getting into and learning the alchemy system. Was initially unsure how I felt about the combat, but it's growing on me more with time.

Overall, I'm glad that I finally played this, even if it doesn't quite match up to recent Ys titles for action. This felt like a promising start for a franchise, and I'm curious to see how Kyoto Xanadu will feel when I finally play it, to see how it compares and develops this franchise. 7.5 for me.

I did find some satisfaction in the combat. Sora was far and away my favorite, as she felt utterly broken with the right setup. Really the only two characters that I didn't like combat-wise were Yuuki(swings just didn't feel "right") and Shio(swings take ages, even though he hits like a truck).

Tokyo Xanadu eX+ Been meaning to get to this one for a while now, and overall glad I did. Love the music, and really enjoyed these characters and their storyline. Combat was mixed for me; I kept feeling like I wanted it to have a little more combo complexity. But this *is* originally a Vita game.

This game's narrative always winds up being really divisive for people, but the combat gameplay was absolutely phenomenal. This was the FF game that got me to really dig into the franchise concept of job systems, and I wish so many other RPGs would adopt their own takes on it.

As someone who finally got to play Stellar Blade this year and came away excited to see how a sequel could improve on a generally good core idea that could use a second try... boy, is it disappointing to see how Shift Up fumbled their goodwill with this AI push. Luckily, I still have NieR Automata.

When I heard how it plays at the start of each chapter, I thought it'd annoy me; but I honestly kind of love it. Really helps make the game feel like Falcom designed their own anime based around the Persona template. It's like I'm sitting on the couch and binging an old anime, and I dig it.

Early thoughts on Tokyo Xanadu after finishing Chapter 2... -Love the music, feels very classic. Main theme actually reminds me of Mega Man 8's OST, oddly. -Characters are likeable so far. -Episodic format is nice; Side Stories are a great way to showcase party members. -Camera is a little janky.

Ah. Yeah, I needed to get a group from Discord together for that version of the fight since most folks doing Lucilius are doing a harder difficulty version of him. The people who joined ended up being some ridiculously high ML (something like 40+), they carried me through both that one and the 30k.

My guess on this is that it has to do with how you have a limited timer to match with a full party before your timer asks if you want to stop searching or put yourself back in the pool, but I don't know that for sure.

With the way the DLC has been for me, it's really easy to find out you have too much DMG cap by the late game. I've found myself having to rebalance more than a few times to try to hit that efficiency of 100% as much as possible.

My partner was the He-Man/MotU fan growing up, and she told me that this was a film very clearly made by people who were fans of the old license and knew how to joke around with it. Leaning into the whole 80s cheese of it was absolutely the right call.

It's hysterical to me that the first film since Blade Runner 2049 that isn't tanked by Leto's presence is the one in which he's totally covered up by effects work and his voice is post-processed. And Skeletor was easily the best part of the film for me, which I'm crediting entirely to the writers.

Hey everyone.

Last night, to my great surprise, I received a long email from Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch. He apologized unreservedly for the awful way he spoke about me in the press. The email’s full text will stay between us; I’m not that kind of girl. But I have confirmed it was from him.

Matt said he regretted escalating, and how people online were speaking about me. I’m not worried about being called slurs by random commenters—I’m a trans woman, that’s every day for me—but it stunk to have my skill and reputation built of 20 years in games publicly maligned by someone with institutional power.

One thing I saw people saying about me, and that Matt fueled the flames of too, was that this is not my first time calling a former employer out, so I must love drama or be hard to work with. The truth is, bad treatment is everywhere in games; I’m just more willing than others to call it out. And I call it out so maybe others will be willing, too, when it happens to them.

I’ve been firm from the beginning that I was telling the truth; I think we can all now agree that’s been borne out. Matt expressed a desire to make it right with me; at this time I don’t really know what that looks like for me, and I’ll have to take some time to sit with it, but I do at least accept his apology.

None of this changes my stance on AI. Matt and I obviously differ on this, and as a CEO the consequences of its use fall on him, and unfortunately also on his employees.

Apologies are simply in too short a supply these days to spurn one when it’s offered.

God willing, this is the last statement I’ll need to make about this.

Granblue Relink: Endless Ragnarok What a phenomenal expansion to one of my favorite games of 2024. New systems are a lot of fun, there's a ton to grind out, and new characters are a blast to play. Looking forward to coming back to this to grind out more. This remains favorite Monhun-like. 9/10.
