If you are at a conference use. the. microphone. It doesn't matter how loud you think you are, it doesn't matter if you are a speaker or audience member. You should try to accommodate people who are hard of hearing (otherwise you're excluding them!)

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Thinking at work back then: waiting for inspiration while staring into the room, holding your specs, wearing your thinking hat, and ignoring the sticky note you made yesterday. The year is 1653, and this etching is showing a thinking philosopher. #academicchatter
a three-quarter length figure, seated at a desk, turned to right; supporting his head with his left arm, which is placed on the desk covered in papers and a globe at right; and holding spectacles in his right hand. First orchestra rehearsal after summer break. Somehow the notes keep looking even tinier. Are my eyes getting worse? 😅 Initial read-thru was decent except "Buckaroo Holiday" by Aaron Copland. Conductor says Copland was sexist and egotistical, but we have to get the rhythms right.

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.
