Is that true? I've been curious, seems he was having ethical issues long before he fell under the sway of Trump.

My point was the reporting structure becomes something not under the school's administration for investigations. You said all cops are the same. Square the circle then.

So there's no hope? No progress? Just give up? Whatever. Is a situation which needs to change.

The easy midpoint would seem to be that campus police are better security, and an always on campus presence, but that investigations, etc not be handled by the campus police. Anywhere.

The Dyed Diesel Waiver Has Catches Most Truckers Will Run Into
Earlier tonight, President Trump signed an executive order that temporarily allows tax-exempt dyed (red) diesel to be used on roads and highways.

Yours is the generous read. I would not hang my hate on that being Trump's intent; however fumbled. He's trying to move the goal posts on a colossally stupid error in judgment. That's the lede.

feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them

What a lie. Some of these people are being imprisoned indefinitely in squalid condition in African prisons. Others report being beaten and arbitrarily deported in violation of international law back to their home countries, where they face persecution or torture.
The indefinite nature of their confinement has taken a severe toll. In October 2025, a Cuban man who was on the July flight went on a hunger strike for a month-until he started showing signs of organ failure —to protest the conditions of his detention, including his ongoing confinement and lack of access to legal counsel.
Terrified of being imprisoned in Eswatini forever, another man repeatedly told his attorney that the prison there never lets people go. One man told his attorney that he feels like a caged animal with no end in sight. The prison does not have air conditioning, making the hot, humid summer months especially uncomfortable for the men.
Food is insufficient, medication is scarce, and requests often go unmet or are belatedly met.

Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.

DHS is simply buying local cops’ support with our tax dollars. Like I’ve been saying, they own a lot of these cops. www.wsj.com/us-news/immi...
Even if Boring's deputies don't take any others into custody, his department is eligible for a payment equal to more than a quarter of its annual budget. Those are the terms of a Department of Homeland Security task force program that enlists local police as paid partners in the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
Jurisdictions similar to Doddridge County-sparsely populated with few immigrants-make up the majority of new recruits to the
DHS task force program, which has become a cash cow for state and local law enforcement agencies nationwide. After turning over a single deportable immigrant, departments qualify to receive $60,000 a year for each deputized officer, regardless of additional arrests. The Venice Police Department in Venice, Fla., tallied one federal immigration detention in September 2025 and has since requested a total of $895,000. The department can continue collecting funds every quarter as long as it remains on the task force.
The program is most profitable for large departments. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office in Florida signed up more than 970 deputies, making it eligible for roughly $14.5 million in DHS funds from April to June, state records show. That pencils out to more than $2 million for each of its seven immigration arrests in that quarter.

It feels genuinely ridiculous having to say this, but the point of art is to connect with another human. Someone thought of that painting or melodic line or scene or paragraph that is suddenly making you weep, and that means that they saw you and understood you without even meeting you.
