Even cycling is the same: I never felt drawn to road cycling, or cycle-racing, but a lot more to downhill mountain biking -- the element of excitement, skill, fear, challenge, and accomplishment is so much more appealing than aerodynamics, kilograms, wattage, calories, VO2, BPM.

As I get stronger/more skilled, previously "difficult" things become easier; whereas running/swimming just feels like a numbers game -- number goes up. You know what other number also goes up? Age. "Number go up" is not a fun game to play at all.

I figured what it is about strength training, rock-climbing, skateboarding that appeals to me, and what about running, swimming makes them seem so boring: it's about difficulty-progression. At all times, the nice activities have a way for me to feel challenged.

I bought this keyboard in 1998 and it has been my daily driver for the last 28 years. After nearly three decades of service the right shift key has failed. No amount of cleaning will seemingly revive it. I guess it's time to pick up one of those circuit pens and get to drawing some new traces.

Yes, they do, because they are constantly being violated: time or space for road usage by bike is second-class (compared to both motor traffic and pedestrians) at best, and non-existent at worst. Cyclists are under constant threat of grave danger by drivers using cars as a weapon (eg close passes).

It's actually insanely hard. My browser freezes when I switch every 2 tabs. ⚫ It's insanely frustrating, and is an absolute killer of productivity. The task is insurmountable.

It also helps to explain why a modern Finnish infantry platoon has about three times as many officers as most militaries. Partly because the default command expected of a Finnish military leader is "Follow me!". And that tends to lead to a lot of officer casualties.
