I remember a devastating meeting where my Nana was refused state funding because she could still turn over on a matress. At that point she was incontinent, bedbound and didn't know her own name.

Every penny of my Mum’s money is spent on her care home. £5664/month. She 89 in her 10th year of Alzheimer’s. We 3 siblings are baby boomers age 65/68/70. For sure at least one of us will succumb as our maternal grandma had it too. Thousands of pounds will have been paid for care.

Part of the issue perhaps is that Alzheimers is seen as "just a part of getting old" the term "senile dementia" used to be used as if it were a part of aging, Alzheimers is a disease and should come under health and not social care.

Dementia and Alzheimer's are absolutely devastating not only to the sufferer but for their friends and loves ones as well. Currently if it happens to your parent or partner you're effectively on your own navigating this terrible and often very expensive landscape of care.

We had a situation here where a resident noticed a “migrant” clambering through a gap in the hedge next door, so she called the police, who attended the scene. Thus blowing up a long-term surveillance operation by the drug squad into a clutch of cannabis farms, one of which was inside this house.

I went to school in 1990s Somerset. To prove that light travels faster than sound, my science teacher brought his shotgun to school. We stood at one end of the field, he at the other. We started stop-watches when we saw smoke emerge from his barrel and stopped them when we heard the rifle crack.
