Migrated from the hell hole and found it much better for my mental health here. I live a quiet retired life in rural Suffolk, UK with Himself who is finally working part-time in the wind down to retirement, 12 yr old arthritic dog, 2 cats and 7 chickens.

Capital gains taxed at lower rates than wages. 2024-25: 584000 people paid £24.2bn capital gains tax (CGT) on £127.3bn gains. 45% of CGT paid by those with gains of £5m+, less than 1% of CGT payers. Align CGT rates with tax rates on wages, generate £12bn-£14bn. More if NIC charged.

UK Chancellor can easily increase income tax personal allowance by £3,000 a year. It will boost basic rate taxpayers by £600 a year. Millions will be helped. Benefit to higher rate taxpayers can be clawed back. The cost of £30bn can be met by ending bank subsidies, £100bn over the last 3 years.

90 years ago today, 30,000 people gathered on Holbeck Moor in Leeds to stop British fascist leader Oswald Mosley and his Blackshirts holding a rally. My grandad was there to help stop the fascists. I was so proud to speak at the unveiling of the plaque commemorating that historic day.
