LLM's are helpful because they're trained on years of high quality educational material and forums where people helped each other. People aren't visiting forums or paying for educational content anymore because of LLM's. The well isn't going to magically fill itself in perpetuity.

You know how IDEs give you a red squiggly underline if you use a variable that hasn't been defined? I want the same thing for writing prose. Red underline if you refer to a non-obvious concept that hasn't previously been defined in the text.

This might be one of my favorites from Artemis II. A cinematic alignment of the Moon and Earth, each cradled within the warmth of sunbeams. Taken from behind the Moon on April 6th. flic.kr/p/2s6BABn
Crescent (partially illuminated) Moon and Earth facing the Sun. The Sun is just out of frame to the right leaving flares of light reaching out toward the left.

we don't talk enough about how cool the color-interpolation-method is in CSS gradients all of these slices have the same gradient: linear-gradient(#00ffff 0%, #ff00ff 100%) each one is just using a different colour interpolation
A demonstration of the same gradient defined as a light blue to fuschia gradient, with 5 different color interpolation methods. From left to right, srgb, which kind of muddies the blended colours in the middle to a light pastel purple, lch, which moves seems to move to the blue colour quicker, not creating the purple muddiness, oklch, which does move through the purple but in a more subtle way, oklab, which remains more pink than anything, and hsl, which adds a very dark almost internet blue at the centre of the gradient

Canadians! You can now vote for the Canadian Word of the Year! (If we had the option to choose a Canadian WOTY in French as well, I'd suggest the gender-neutral pronoun "iel" which has been in the news a lot in Quebec this year, but probably not applicable since this is an English dictionary)

The chill video game music, the reverse psychology of the 'Stop Focusing' button, and home decorating as a reward? It's my first day but it's like this app was made for me 😍 #focusfriend
A phone screenshot showing the Focus Friend productivity app. It shows a red game character knitting and saying 'Don't interrupt me!', 18:04 left in the focus session, and a red button that says 'Stop Focusing' at the bottom of the screen. In the top right, there is a speaker icon button set to play sounds and can be pressed to turn them off.

This is really fascinating Wikipedia's list of linguistic and stylist "tells" of AI writing, the better to help editors recognize it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...
A Wikipedia-style guideline page on avoiding exaggerated wording by LLMs, with two sections titled Undue emphasis on symbolism and importance and Promotional language. Each section lists “words to watch” in a beige box, such as "stands as a testament", "plays a vital role", "rich cultural heritage", "breathtaking", and "must-see". Below, example sentences are shown with problematic phrases highlighted in yellow, including "enhancing its significance", "captivates both residents and visitors alike", "stands as a symbol", "reflects the evolving identity", "vibrant town with a rich cultural heritage", "fascinating glimpse into the diverse tapestry", and "value-driven experiences".

New bookmarklet! Because I wanted a visually quieter Trello board but not ruin it for the rest of the team
A short bit of code written in JavaScript, meant to be saved as a bookmarklet in a browser. When viewing a project on Trello, it gets all card cover elements and removes them. Code below:

javascript:(
  function () {
    const cardCovers = document.querySelectorAll('[data-testid="card-front-cover"]');
    Array.from(cardCovers).forEach(c => c.remove());
  }
)();

`refreshenv` in #PowerShell is a beautiful thing. Checking if something installed correctly using `<name> --version` no longer means closing and reopening the shell 🎉
A PowerShell terminal showing three commands: `aws --version`, where PowerShell showed an error; `refreshenv`, where PowerShell confirmed the registry was updated; and `aws --version` again, this time showing the version and confirming the installation was successful.

A Powershell script with a function definition and an alias for the function. Full code here:

Function Start-Work {

    $existingPid = (Get-Process -ErrorAction Ignore WindowsTerminal | Select-Object -Last 1).Id

    wt.exe

      -d $backendPath
        pwsh -NoExit -Command "code . && npm run start:dev" `;
      split-pane -V
      -d $frontendPath
        pwsh -NoExit -Command "code . && npm run dev" `;
      ft 0

    if ($existingPid) {
      (New-Object -ComObject WScript.Shell).AppActivate($existingPid)

}
