The Principal Skinner meme with David Seymour's horrific face on it. The caption reads

"Am I out of touch?"
"No, it's the children who should be at school in the holidays"

I love sitting outside at dusk and watching the mosquitos and sandflies try to get supper from me. I don't know why, but they never succeed. If, on the off chance they actually penetrate, they don't feed, and I never itch.

They're running half price fares until end of Jan. We just used our Visa Tap'n'Go for same fares as Myki but guess that's not an option for the kids. Also, isn't the free tram zone so fecking wonderful?

An interesting discovery I made last week. The NZ Woolworths/Everyday Rewards card works in AU Woolies to get the member "discounts".

In 1985, a crew of five British Royal Marines removed a first-gen Ford Escort's inline-4, bolted it back in, and drove the car for 32 yards in just 42 seconds.

How is Viz still being published? I'm not complaining, I'm just amazed. I got a copy of the latest issue and I'm amazed; the content is more controversial/radical than when I was younger, but there seems to be little press about it.

I don't deny that dogs can sometimes be quite lovely but what I will say is I don't trust their opinions. If a cat recommended me an album it had bought, I'd totally check it out. If a dog did the same, I'd promise to listen to the album, out of politeness, with no intention of actually doing so

When you say eat dinner at hotel, are you cooking in room? It's so hard to find properties with rooms with with a microwave let alone a cook-top. Adding an actual oven reduces options to less than 2%

Sunday Night.
Photograph of a older computer screen (CRT) with two speakers either side. An old school keyboard is below the screen. They are all beige.

On the screen is a modification to the Windows 98 shutdown text: "It's now preferable to turn off your computer"

This gave me a good laugh. (from @accordionguy.bsky.social 's "Saturday Picdump" of tech-related memes, cartoons, etc.)
A military execution by firing squad. The condemned person is tied to a wooden post in front of a wall. The condemned man is covered in black ink, with overspray on the wall behind him leaving a negative shadow on the wall. Ten or so feet in front of the prisoner, a large squid lays on the ground, a spray of squid ink stretching between it and the prison.

To one side, two soldiers stand. One, an officer, holds a piece of paper in his hands, looking at it closely.

Caption: "Damn autocorrect."

Back home. No idea what time it is (DST in NZ kicked in the day we left, DST in AU kicked in the day we left). Had a great time in Melbourne; already planning trip back early next year. I'm tired, wife is exhausted, son is happy to see us, cat is nonplused.

But if you update the data in WinFS (or other library systems), it doesn't write it back to the EXIF, so the tags are not portable.

That's always something I've found with all gallery/photo organizing/library software. I used to love Picasia, Office Picture Manager, etc. But they all used proprietary catalogs, which wasn't portable across devices or applications.

Grumble, grumble. AirNZ just sent notice that the galley on tomorrows flight is out of action, so no meals for any class on service. Due to timezones, DST and short connection in Auckland, we depart Melbourne at 0830 and arrive in Palmy at 1730 with no chance to get something.
