Here in Calderdale we had 40% less rain than average in the summer months and temperatures were higher than average. While we weren’t in drought like the south, the soil did eventually dry out.

My partner has set up a bat and bird detector and it's picking up a whole load of species that are around here, but some I haven't seen by eye specifically here. I'm wondering how we validate this? Many are appearing every day with high confidence.

In 2021 I released some local orchid seeds into the wind over our meadow. I didn’t think anything had come of it until summer this year when the moment came - everyone will know what that moment was like. Common spotted orchid, Dactylorhiza fuchsii.
