I’m still processing this. I don’t know what I find more disturbing: the fact that the Vice President believes he is an instrument that may bring about the end times, or that he thinks the anti-Christ may be walking amongst us. I lean toward the former: www.mediaite.com/media/podcas...

JD Vance Says He’s Doing ‘God’s Work’ and ‘If That Leads to the End Times, Ok’
Vice President JD Vance claimed that he is "doing as much of God's work as possible," and added that he is at peace if doing so means bringing about the end times.

Wow: Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, one of the biggest children's hospitals in the nation, will be forced to create the nation's first ever "detransition clinic" as part of a $10 million settlement with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Attorney General Ken Paxton secured a historic settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital (“Texas Children’s”) that compels the creation of the country’s first-ever Detransition Clinic; requires the hospital to pay $10 million for billing Texas Medicaid for unallowable and illegal ‘gender-transition’ interventions, including by using false diagnosis codes; and compels the termination and revocation of privileges of multiple physicians.

After a years-long investigation by the Healthcare Program Enforcement Division, Attorney General Paxton has negotiated a historic settlement that will help protect Texans. Under the terms of this landmark agreement, Texas Children’s will establish the first-ever multidisciplinary clinic designed to provide medical care to patients who were subjected to “gender-transition” procedures. This Detransition Clinic will help patients reverse the damage caused by ideologically-motivated physicians who harmed patients by performing dangerous medical interventions for the purpose of “transitioning” them. For the first five years, all services provided through the Detransition Clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and be free of charge to patients.

And it wouldn't even lead to lower prices at the pump! Here's the legendary @pkrugman.bsky.social writing in 2000.
Now suppose that we were to cut gasoline taxes. If the price of gas at the pump were to fall, motorists would buy more gas. But there isn't any more gas, so the price at the pump, inclusive of the lowered tax, would quickly be bid right back up to the pre-tax-cut level. And that means that any cut in taxes would show up not in a lower price at the pump, but in a higher price paid to distributors. In other words, the benefits of the tax cut would flow not to consumers but to other parties, mainly the domestic oil refining industry. (As the textbooks will tell you, reducing the tax rate on an inelastically supplied good benefits the sellers, not the buyers.)

Want to know more about proportional representation? boltsmag.org/mid-decade-r...
"In a system of proportional representation, instead, a district elects many members, and parties get a number of seats proportional to their share of the vote. This may help third parties grow, since they could win seats with even a small share of the vote; it would also diminish the importance of redistricting since no party could win all seats, even in a favorable district.

“Now multiple parties can compete and win across regions,” Drutman says, “no more winner-take-all lockouts, every vote matters. And with fewer, larger districts, there are fewer lines to draw.”

A 1967 federal law, known as the Uniform Congressional District Act, currently requires that states use single-member districts. But Congress could amend that law to mandate that states use proportional representation instead; no constitutional amendment would be needed.

States could adopt this method for their legislatures without any federal approval; proponents like Drutnam are already pushing proposals to do just that in several states, including California. An Oregon lawmaker, Democrat Farrah Chaichi even introduced legislation in 2023 to switch state House elections to this system; her proposal was that all Oregonians vote in one statewide election that would decide the chamber’s composition proportionally.

A Democratic president with simple majorities in Congress could enact proportional representation for the House—no amendments required. 50%+1 could end the filibuster, expand SCOTUS, expand the House, and enact PR by state. And add new states like D.C. to rebalance the Senate while they’re at it
