Rx 1 to neg CV study re: Lp(a) (&, after @erictopol.bsky.social's useful post, IL-6 study) was how biology is just >> complex, w >> "epistemic opacity" (as we recently wrote in NRDD) than so many "AI will cure ca in 5-10y" realize. Rx 2: awaiting hot take: AI would have prevented this fail.

Friendly reminder, sparked by recent Lp(a) study. The ability to offer a compelling explanation of something after it's occurred- while often reassuring, sometimes entertaining, occasionally useful- *does not* constitute understanding or ability to predict future successes or prevent failures.

All this shit-talking after disappointing Novartis Lp(a) p3 study is incredibly annoying. Somehow, after the fact, everyone is a confident genius triumphantly explaining why of course it didn’t work. Post-hoc certitude is a cheap insincere high. (If you predicted in advance-good on you)

I don't know answer but as a fellow opera fan, I'm very curious-esp since I named a few vectors I constructed after opera characters, eg pGilda, used in 2H screens, named after self-sacrificial nature of character in Rigeletto. And yes, there was a pSparafucile vector too; better name, less useful.
