A little more about the 2027 #DisabledInSTEM Mentorship Program and who can participate! Whether you’re looking for mentorship or hoping to support disabled people in STEM, there’s a place for you in our community. Applications are open through Dec. 11!
Lavender graphic for the DisabledInSTEM 2027 Mentorship Program announcing that applications are now open. The program is recruiting disabled mentees in STEM to connect with mentors, build community, and grow in their STEM journeys, as well as disabled and nondisabled mentors to share their experience, support the next generation, and make STEM more inclusive. The international program is entering its 7th year and has had more than 400 participants. Applications are due December 11, 2026. Link in bio to apply. DisabledInSTEM logo appears at the top.
Lavender graphic titled “DisabledInSTEM 2027 Mentorship Program: Why Join the Program?” The program has spent 7 years building and growing, with more than 400 mentors and mentees participating. It is an international community connecting disabled people across institutions, disciplines, and career stages. The program’s impact has been recognized in Nature Reviews Materials and through the 2024 NEB Passion in Science Award for Scientific Mentorship and Advocacy. DisabledInSTEM logo appears at the top.

Protocol for Single-Cell Patch-Proteomics: identify specific proteins associated with electrophysiological properties from individual neurons
Single-cell patch-proteomics is a novel and powerful technique combining electrophysiological and quantitative proteomic characterization from individually sampled neurons. Following whole-cell patch clamp characterization of neuronal excitability, we collect intracellular contents and, using the latest advancements in Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, identify and quantify peptides and their corresponding proteins. By cell-matched one-to-one associations between electrophysiological properties and protein abundance, this approach provides a means to elucidate molecular mechanisms of neuronal function on individual neuron basis.

As a comparative immunologist, I dread bad papers that use antibodies specific for mouse in random fish species without any sort of validation, making claims that "new anatomical sites" have immune function. This science poisons our field and if you all come across these papers as a reviewer please
