I'd also thought about Godwin, but wasn't sure I could fit one more on, especially if I do Midlothian, which is really hard to excerpt.

Not entirely sure yet; just in the stages of putting together a proposal. I'm thinking Jane Eyre, Melmoth, Heart of Midlothian, Maria; or the Wrongs of Woman; and the Italian.

I'd love to hear how it goes for you! Yes the English section is a good shout, especially if I use The Italian to cover something like the Inquisition

thinking again about something @mcsardo.bsky.social wrote a few years ago-- educate.apsanet.org/thinking-pol...
Rather than rehearsing the ratification debates and entrenching an image of an apolitical Court, APUSG courses could study the structures of their own state and local governments and identify opportunities for civic engagement, debate Court precedents that affect the lives of members of their particular communities, and read political and scholarly texts that better reflect the diversity of the nation and their own political worlds. Such an approach begins by trusting and empowering teachers, encouraging collaboration, and foregrounding the politics in US government and politics.

I know this is the least important point in this whole sorry tale but how dare they appropriate the term 'triage' for this context. People have put hours, sometimes years, of their time into research bids - they are not a problem or condition to be treated.

Sounds great! One of the things I'm struggling with is that our students are pre-emptively enrolled in CourseWorks, which provides ebooks of all their texts. And that just really makes a tech-free or tech-lite approach difficult.

Academic prose is driven by its argument. Simply assembling and reporting facts is not, in almost all cases, publishable professional scholarship. Even primarily descriptive scholarship still contains an argument about what you found and why it matters.
