Just because I strongly oppose any measure to tackle Russian misinformation, doesn’t mean I’m on Russia's side. In unrelated news, one of the few times I bothered turning up for work as an MEP was to vote AGAINST measures to tackle the spread of Russian misinformation...

Astonishing to hear people say they'd rather asylum seekers drowned than be saved by the RNLI. Next comes letting people die in burning hostels rather than be saved by the fire brigade and letting people get kicked to death in the street rather than be saved by the Police. Don't platform this hate.

New from me: Britain’s graduate earnings premium is falling, cue “too many go to university!” But non-university outcomes are also bad, cue “we must reform vocational routes!” Both miss the point: people used to think education drove economic outcomes, but the economy drives educational outcomes.

This is a very sad story. Putting the human element aside for a moment, why does this headline say "alleged murder"? Surely, a coroner decided she was murdered, and that is why it has gone to court. Other sentences here do not have "alleged" in front of murder. "Alleged" is over-used in journalism.

Recently I discovered that "agora" is the Greek word for market [place?] and now I keep thinking that the anxiety disorder we call "agoraphobia" should have a different name, just so that agoraphobia could be used to describe men's fear of being made to go shopping. 😉

Recently we went to Kos. Whilst there, we visited the Casa Romana. There were many artifacts and some would not photograph well, but one item particularly caught my attention and it wasn't too difficult to photograph. Here is a small bottle in the shape of a large date, along with two blue bottles.
There is a date-shaped bottle lying on its side on the left. It has the wrinkly texture of a medjool date.

Politico has picked up my latest @bylinetimes.bsky.social story on Reform wanting jail time for election literature that isn't in English or Welsh - in other words banning Gaelic, Irish, Cornish and Scots (as well as the Asian languages they're no doubt targeting) bylinetimes.com/2026/07/13/r...
LOST IN TRANSLATION: Reform UK has proposed an amendment to the government’s Election Bill that would send candidates who use Irish, Gaelic or Cornish on election leaflets to jail. Reform MPs co-signed New Clause 107 to the Representation of the People Bill that would require all election publications to be “in the English language or the Welsh language” only. Five of six Cornish MPs have signed a joint statement of condemnation. The Byline Times has more.
